Whilst wandering around some shops the other day, I came across one of those cheap toiletry shops, which sells everything at a lower price (or so they claim) and decided to check it out as I needed a few things and I love a good bargain.
On my way to the till with my basket I noticed this product sat on the shelf and having tried several of these types of ‘nose strips’ before and not finding one that works satisfactorily, I decided to give these a go. I paid just £1.99 for 6 strips, which is a great price when you consider that other more well-known brands charge up to £10 for a box of six strips of this nature.

The box which hold the strips is quite a lot bigger than necessary in my opinion as the strips are thin. It is approximately 5 inches tall, 3 inched wide and 1 inch thick. So when you consider that you get 6 strips which are so thin that you can’t measure them inside, it does seem like a bit of a waste, but I guess if they made the box too small no one would ever notice the product. On the front of the box there is a picture of a woman who is wearing a strip (and she looks quite happy about it too!) and Purederm is set in a big red border to grab attention (see picture at end of op).

They sound extremely impressive don’t they? But would I be disappointed with them like I have been with other products, which claim this sort of thing?
I always take care to read the instruction before using these, as making mistakes will only mean wasting a strip – and there aren’t that many to go around.
Inside the box there are 6 individually wrapped strips. They come in little silver packets and have the same directions for use and cautions as the box does, so they can easily be transported on their own and you’ll still always know what to do. Ingenious. The top of the silver pocket does need to be cut with scissors to allow you to access the strip though.
The principle is pretty much the same as that of a plaster. The strips are white and have been specifically shaped with a clear plastic backing, which peels off easily to stick to the nose.
They are extremely easy to use – although I did have to check the picture on the box to make sure I didn’t apply it upside down the first time:
Firstly, it’s important that your face is thoroughly washed to ensure that it’s free of any creams, lotions or make-up.
Make sure your hands are dry and open the packet (like I said, you need scissors to snip the top off) and peel back the plastic backing. You need to do this soon after the strip has been taken out of the packet as it apparently helps the strip to peel from the liner.
You should then wet your nose area thoroughly with water. I tend to use luke warm water for this, but as it doesn’t specify, I would assume that the temperature used is down to personal preference. You do need to make sure that the area is thoroughly wet though as if it isn’t wet enough on your nose surface area then the strip won’t stick properly and won’t be fully effective.
You then apply the strip (make sure it’s the right way up!) to the nose area which has been moistened with the shiny side facing the skin (this is the side that sticks) and press down gently to smooth out any air bubbles and ensure a tight fit and good contact with the skin.
You then have to leave it on for between 10 and 15 minutes.
The strip will stiffen as it dries which left me with a slightly strange sensation as it tightens the skin and feels hard to the touch. (It also left me up for a lot of ‘clever’ jokes from my boyfriend). I left mine on for 15 minutes as I wanted to make sure it had a good chance of working.
After the time is up, it’s time to remove the strip. The directions say to slowly and carefully peel the strips off starting at the edges and pulling towards the centre. Apparently mine either stuck well, or dried well and it was like removing a plaster from my face as it was quite sticky. Not the most pleasant experience and slightly painful (maybe I’m just being soft though – no pain, no gain and all that - but if you do it both carefully and slowly it’s not that painful, although it did leave my nose a little bit red.
Any residue from the strip is just rinsed away with water. I didn’t have much residue left but it did just need a quick wipe with water on my had and it was gone.
Now for the results – I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was really effective. Upon inspection of my nose, every last possible bit of grime had been removed and I was left clear from blackheads and anything else which might have been there. I then inspected the strip and was amazed to see the dirt it had removed in clear detail. In fact, I was so impressed that I showed it to my boyfriend – who then decided he wanted it done too!
The results have been long-lasting as well. I don’t tend to suffer with much of a problem anyway to be honest but I’ve noticed that since I used the strip, my nose area seems to be a lot clearer than usual.
There are some restrictions for using these strips though I’m afraid and the cautions are as follows:
Use should be avoided using on sunburned, blemished or pimply skin.
Avoid using on skin sensitive to tapes, bandages or peel-off masks (for obvious reasons having tried them!)
They should only be used on the nose, even though you can buy different strips for other areas of the face, i.e. chin and forehead, these mustn’t be used anywhere else.
You should only use them a maximum of 1 or 2 times weekly and allow a 3 day interval between usage. I personally don’t think that it’s necessary to use them this often though.
In the event that the strip adheres too strongly to the skin or is too painful to remove, then wetting the strip thoroughly will enable it to slide off easily but will not be effective in the removal of dirt, etc.
They should be kept away from children.
I will definitely be purchasing these again as they are the best thing of their kind on the market. They are however, a nightmare to get hold of as I can’t find them in Boots, Superdrug or any of the supermarkets.
They are available from two website, though at slightly more then I paid:
www.essentials-direct.co.uk sells them for £2.49 (6 strips)
www.edirectory.co.uk sells them at a hefty £4.00 (6 strips)
You can visit the website for more information on this product - www.purederm.com although you don’t appear to be able to purchase them here.
There are also several other products in the Purederm range to check out, these include:
Anti-wrinkle gel patched for under the eyes Anti-acne gel patches for the face A self-heating moisture mask Daily facial cleansing cloths And a variety of Cleaning Tissues, which remove makeup.
Highly recommended at any price, and well deserving of 5 stars - even if they are difficult to find. I will try to discover if there are any chains which retail these and will update if I can find somewhere – if anybody has seen them – please let me know!

Overall Opinion
Overall, I feel that these deep cleansing nose strips are excellent in doing the job that they promise on the packaging. The only grievance that I do have is that you only get six strips for £1.99, I would prefer more but as I only use them once a week, they last me six weeks before I need to purchase more. ...I've first seen the Purederm range at beauty discounter Beauty Base in Ealing Broadway, London and because until now I haven't found a truly working nose strip treatment, I gave them a go. The Purederm range is widely available at chemists and online too and all products tend to have the same £2.99 price.

The nose strips come in a pack of six (or 8 when on promotion) in a carton box donning the Purederm logo in white and red ... ...'''What it claims it does'''
* Instantly cleans clogged pores
* Removes blackheads
* Larger size for better fit '''Apperance and application'''
The strip is a small pad with a shiny surface on one side that's protected with a transparent foil you remove before application. It has a faint chemical smell of alcohol. You apply the shiny side of the strip on a thoroughly (dripping) wet nose. This is because the glue on the strip is activated by water, ...

Advantages: Great Fun, good for shocking people, Satisfying to peel off black heads Disadvantages: Expensive or what you get
So, I hear you asking yourselves, what is a respectable middle aged bloke doing faffing around with these things? Well, since I was a teenager and first squeezed a zit in my mother's hall mirror, smearing the residue across the glass, I have been fascinated by spots. Because I am such a clean living , clear skinned chap I don't get many of these now, more's the pity, but when I do I like to enjoy them. There's nothing more satisfying than the healthy ... ...the puss hitting the mirror. When you get into your 40s this becomes much rarer and you have to find other ways to satiate your baser urges, like chasing women half your own age or driving just a little too fast.
This strips are great. Smooth them onto a wet nose and wait for them to dry, then peel them off and count the blackheads. I did one yesterday and it was a disappointment, having had a week off at home enjoying clean sea air and not exposing ...

Advantages: They cheap but they work! Disadvantages: None so far
Having long been a sufferer of blackheads, I'm always eager to try things out. I have tried many of these strips on the market and found them all very good, not 100% effective but used once a week or so, they keep my pesky little blackheads to a minimum!!
I have always kept my eye open for BOGOF offers though as they can be quite pricey.
That is until I came across these. They are not found many places though. Savers is the only place I have found ... ...bargain i thought!!
They work in the same way all the others do
1. Wet your nose, or other offending area
2. Apply strip firmly
3. Leave on for 10 mins or so
4. Whip off and marvel at the gunk that you've just pulled out of your pores!!!
Simple really, and like I said before, not perfect but they certainly do help. ...
