Advantages Advantages Durable, dishwasher, microwave & oven safe, good prices, easy to read, versatile.

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's made of glass, so it isn't indestructible, can be too slippy to grip, gradients can fade.

Pyrex is the student’s best friend. Or, it was when I was a student! When I left home at the end of the 1990’s my parents happily passed me their entire collection of white Pyrex dinner service that also included a few of their glass cookware and in those days, a little known company called Corningware that bettered Pyrex on the basis that their cooking pots could be used on the hob, oven and microwave compared to Pyrex which can’t be used on a hob. Thus, I was quite excited to be able to have something from home at the time, even though I shortly became aware of how dangerous Pyrex could be ... more

Advantages Advantages Geat size and quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages The ppouring lip is absolutely rubbish

Excellent quality but pretty major flaw in its design Ever since I moved out of home years ago now I had made do with a scabby old plastic measuring jug which had done the job admirably. When it finally cracked beyond repair I decided to invest in a more decent one as my tastes have become a little bit more sophisticated over the years and I now use a measuring jug for more than just heating up beans in the microwave. I definitely didn’t want to buy another cheap plastic one and as I already own a few Pyrex dishes I decided to get a jug to match it. Surprisingly it only cost me £5.99 which I ... more

Advantages Advantages Copes well with lots of temperatures robust and lasts a long time

Disadvantages Disadvantages I would of liked a 100ml starting point for measuring

I have had my Pyrex jug more years than I care to remember and it is still as good as the day I got it, the Jug I have is the 1 litre version however it is also available in a 500ml version too. Pyrex is made from borosilicate glass this is a special blend of components that are heated to very high temperatures and melted to form glass. What this means is that Pyrex is suitable for all types of cooking be it oven or microwave and it can withstand temperatures of 300 degrees. Equally it can cope with cold temperatures making it suitable for the fridge and freezer too. Pyrex also doesn’t take on ... more

    Advantages Advantages Versatile, durable, smart

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I have a fantastic 'gadget' in my kitchen and it is something I could not do without. Is it a clever cooker, a distinctive dishwasher, a fancy fridge or a marvellous microwave? No - it is my trusty Pyrex Measuring Jug! The jug to which I refer is the 500ml / 1 pint jug which currently retails at anything between £2 and £4 depending where you buy it from! There is also a 2pint version out there but I find the smaller one more versatile and easier to use and if I do need to measure 2 pints I just fill it twice! Come to think of I actually have two of these jugs in the cupboard so I could fill ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive.

I, like many other Cioaees, own a Pyrex jug. For the last couple of weeks I have been observing the Jug and seeing what tasks I demand of it in the kitchen. I wanted to see if it was really as useful as everyone on here seems to think it is. My Pyrex jug is of a sturdy construction with a nicely molded handle on the opposite side to the spout. The Jug is made of super strong borosilicate glass, this means it can handle extremes of temperature and is just as happy in the microwave as it is in the freezer. Although it is tough it is not indestructible, I have managed to break a few Pyrex items ... more
