This review is on QI: the Book of General Ignorance, written by John Mitchinson along with John Lloyd. This book came about as a result of a show on BBC called QI, which has been hosted by the one and only Stephen Fry (or whatever else it is that you may think about him!).
This book tells you all about a whole host of different topics, and tells you the things that you never knew about that topic because you always assumed that you knew the opposite. I think that maes sense, but you know what I mean.
The things that you find out about are the kinds of things that you don't want to be told by some snotty kid, who think that they know better than you because daddy is something quite high up.
Out of the 230 in the book, take these short examples as something to whet your appetite to see what I mean:
The fact that you don't have two nostrils, but four - it is only that you can only see the two external ones! Think of fish, and you have got the answer.
The fact that Henry VIII was only married twice, because his other wives were either still already married or the marriage was annulled because it was never consummated - therefore making it perfectly legal and above board for the marriage to not exist in a court of the law.
I will not tell you any more, because this will only spoil the rest of the book for you. But only to say that if your mind is anything like mine in that you always to just find out that little bit more about something that doesn't seem quite right to you - then this book is a must. There may well be some things however that you do not agree with, but that is life.
Having its ISBN number as 0-571-23368-6, I only bought it for around £3 from one of those book clubs at work. But although that is said, on the inside front cover is an RRP of £12.99 within the UK. No doubt though, by looking around you can find a good deal on this.
Happy reading, enjoy!
