Community Quote

Porridge oats are something you will always find in my cupboard, and they are usually the ones made by Quaker. They are nutritious, tasty, filling and cheap, and if you eat them regularly your body will benefit in several different ways. What brand of oats you buy makes little difference ... Read review

Are you getting your oats

Advantagestasty, filling, nutritious, cheap

Disadvantagesnone whatsoever

"...I tend to go for Quaker because that's what I was brought up on, and there's something about that traditional red and blue box with the kindly Quaker man on the front that reminds me of all the best, most comforting things about my childhood. They're not the cheapest at around £1.30 for 1 kg, but you'll get many meals out of a kilogramme so it's hardly an extravagance to buy a brand name. Porridge oats are oats that have been rolled and broken ..." Read review

Oatso Simple and Oatso Tasty

Advantagesquick to make

Disadvantagesprobably not the most healthy of breakfasts

"...porridge. It is made by Quaker and comes in a box of 8 sachets. There are four different flavours, original, Berry Burst, Baked Apple and Golden Syrup. I bought my last box from Safeway on special offer for 99p. The reason it is so easy is because you make it in the microwave. All you do is empty the sachet into a large bowl and stir in 180ml of milk, which is approximately a cup full. I have been making these for so long now that I know exactly ..." Read review

Things to do with Quakers

AdvantagesQuality Rolled oats great for baking with

DisadvantagesMakes horrible Porridge

"To make a bowl of porridge take a saucepan with salted water in add a handful of oatmeal medium or coarse depending on how you feel and boil until thick enough. Serve in a bowl with milk or cream so your porridge is a floating island in a sea of milk. Add salt to taste and enjoy a meal to pick you up for the day. Do not use rolled oats if you want real porridge as it ends up with no real texture and in my opinion not worth even trying. What can ..." Read review

Porridge: You can either like it or lump it!

AdvantagesHealthy; Good value

DisadvantagesToo lumpy; Bitter taste

"...went shopping, I discovered that Quaker Oats was 75p cheaper for the 250g more in its 1kg box. Ever the economiser, I decided to switch to this instead. After all, porridge is porridge, surely. Wrong! The first thing that is noticeable is the difference in appearance between the two products, Quaker Oats’ larger flakes contrasting markedly with the fine, powdery grains of Ready Brek, which is more intensively milled and also contains 39% oat flour. ..." Puts hairs on your chest

Advantagesquick, cheap, easy

Disadvantagesnot to everyone's taste

"I’m on a new diet and every morning, at about 730am, I open the cupboard door in the kitchen and bleary eyed, take the Quaker’s porridge oats out of the cupboard. My husband is normally still asleep at this time and I tiptoe around making the porridge for both of us. There are many different ways of making porridge and there are also different types of porridge. So first of all I will give you a little background. Porridge, as I know ..." Read review
