Advantages Wonderful energetic live funk
Disadvantages Not for everyone
Will Holland has gained a good underground following as 'Quantic' over the past 5 years, earning respect for his lively mix of soul, funk and hip-hop beats with slick production and some great guest singers.
More recently the Quantic Soul Orchestra project was launched to continue Mr Holland's love of funk with a live band and strict 'no samples' rule. The result is pure genius.An energetic and fun live band, they also come across well when recorded, the production easily capturing their raw and highly funky sound. Long time vocalist Alice Russell makes a welcome appearance, lending her powerful and commanding tones to 'Something thats real' , 'take your time, change your mind' and a cover of 4hero's 'Hold it down'.
The result is the sound of 70s funk, given a subtle modern twist but losing none of the energy or fun that characterised songs of the era, and without sounding in any way retro. Anyone who enjoys funk should definitely check out QSO's 'Stampede' and are very unlikely to be disappointed!
