The main difference between the two is that the DS has two screens, whilst the PSP has one big one. The bottom DS screen is also touch sensitive so in some games you can control actions by using a stylus or fingers.
Another thing that separates the two are the storage devices of the games. The DS uses tiny cartridges were you save data directly to them. The PSP on the other hand uses UMD discs so saved games need to be stored on a memory card.
