i have no manual for my picnic and have a lite on the dash and dont no wot it is?

my picnic loses power when driving you have to switch the engine off then on again goes for a while then
loses power again.I have disconnected the speedometer car goes ok but i don't know what the problem is.I but it on the test machine but can not tell me what is causing the problem can anyone help?
