I was slightly concerned, though, as this test was so cheap (see cost part of review) and I seriously wondered whether it would work, yet because I had only a 1% chance of ever falling pregnant, I thought that if this cheap one gave me the two blue lines I have wished for for so long, then I'd take a more expensive one just in case.

I wanted to mention that above as now I have proof that it doesn't matter how expensive a test is, this one in particular works perfectly, so you would not be wasting your money.

The Early Detection One Step Pregnancy Test boasts to be a rapid test. It comes in a single strip format and detects early ... more
As many women will know, if you dream of becoming a mum, whether it be for the first time or the third, it can become quite expensive every time that you are a little late and you take a test and, to your dismay, only one line shows up.
For two and a half years myself and my husband have tried for my first baby, knowing we had only a 1% chance of success naturally. After many failed tests, I decided to, instead of spending around £10 a time on tests, to pick up a few boxes of the Quik-Check Early Detection One Step Pregnancy Test.
Over the period of two and a half years, I have used this test for approximately one year, each time only one line showing, much to my dismay, yet only a few days ago, two blue lines appeared very quickly. Still in my mind, though, I wondered whether it was playing up as it was cheap, so I took another one of the same test, and again two blue lines appeared. Still in shock, I took two more tests which were more expensive and both immediately gave the same result. I was pregnant, proving that the Quik-Check tests do work as well as others!
I wanted to mention that above as now I have proof that it doesn't matter how expensive a test is, this one in particular works perfectly, so you would not be wasting your money.
*****The Product*****
The Early Detection One Step Pregnancy Test boasts to be a rapid test. It comes in a single strip format and detects early hormones (hCG) in the urine. The test 'utilizes a combination of antibodies including a monoclonal hCG antibody to selectively detect elevated levels' of the hormone.
As with many home tests, this test also specifies that it is 99% overall accuracy and, although it is best to take it first thing in the morning due to heightened hormone levels, you can take it at any time during the day. I took the first one in the morning and the second one around lunch time and both showed two blue lines, so as long as your hormones are up, it does work throughout the day.
The test comes with a basic test strip and instructions leaflet.
As with some cheaper tests, this one requires dipping it into a small container up to the maximum mark on the strip for approximately 10-15 seconds opposed to holding it under your urine stream. Slightly less hygienic, yet when you want to fall pregnant so much, or are desperate to make sure you are not pregnant, then this does not really become an issue. The only thing which is a slight issue, though, is the tiny fact that the test kit does not actually come with a container! It is a supply your own deal. This is not great if you are out and about and desperate to know, in this case I wouldn't suggest buying this one, unless you are patient enough to get home and find a suitable container, one in which your family wont drink from! Another alternative is collect a sample pot from your doctors and use that (Which as long as it is cleaned properly can be used again). This way, no one will mistake the pot for a glass or cup!
The basic test strip is about the length of an adult woman's middle finger (Please excuse my measuring way, there is never a ruler around when you need one!) The top half of the stick is covered with a shiny tape like area for you to hold onto when implementing the test. Just below that is the testing are where the control line will appear in any test, and another blue line if you are indeed pregnant. Below that on the bottom of the strip is a blue part with arrows pointing to a line, showing the maximum area of where to dip the strip into the urine.
*****Instructions*****
1. Urinate into a clean, dry cup or container (As specified above, you need to provide your own as the kit lacks this piece of vital tool) 2. Remove the test strip from the pouch and familiarize yourself with it. (Again, please read above) 3. With arrow pointing toward the urine, dip the test strip vertically in the urine for 10-15 seconds (This bit is in bold so is very important). Do not pass the maximum line. 4. Remove the test strip from the urine, place in flat on a non-absorbent surface and begin timing.* (see note below) 5. As the test begins to work, you will notice a light colored flow moving across the test region (the center of the strip) and a blue control line will appear. (This is the control line NOT the pregnancy line. You need two for that!) 6. Read the results in 3 minutes (In bold for importance)* (See note below)
* Note on instruction 4: I found the packaging in which the strip came out of is a great place to lay the strip.
* Note on instruction 6: Although it says read the result in three minutes. Both times I took the test when it showed me as pregnant, the lines appeared almost immediately. This 3-minute timing, though, is an average time which I remember waiting all those times I wasn't pregnant. Do not read the test after ten minutes have passed
*****Results*****
Pregnant: If two distinct blue lines appear, even if one is lighter than the other, then you are pregnant
Not Pregnant: If only the control line appears then you are probably not pregnant. It specifies probably not as if it is early days, your pregnancy hormone might not be strong enough for any test to pick up.
Invalid: If there is no line in the control region of the test then the test hasn't worked. This has never happened with me!
*****Costs*****
I picked these tests up for £1.00 from my local Supersaver shop. A bargain! Not only are they easy to use, they work perfectly and are extremely cheap!
*****Packaging*****
The test comes in a small hand size box, and contains one test and instructions leaflet. The test strip, itself, is wrapped in a glossy wrapper for freshness. The box has 'Quik-Check Early Detection One Step Pregnancy Test' written on the front with basic instructions on the back (The leaflet holds better instructions).
*****Overall*****
I would swear on these tests, after all, they were the first tests to tell me my dream has come true!
The only bugbear I had was the lack of container supplied, yet this was easily overcome, and for this extremely low price, you shouldn't expect miracles (well, except for that one saying you are pregnant!).
Would I recommend this product? Yes, most definitely! It is cheap, reliable, easy to use and does everything other tests do!

Advantages: Incredibly cheap and easy to use Disadvantages: not all reliable
When i thought that i was pregnant i used this pregnancy test 4 times, and each time it came back negative, even though i was actual pregnant! It says early detection but it only works if you are more than 2 months pregnant. In my opinion its not really ideal but it is cheap!
The pregnancy test was very easy to use, the only down side is that you had to use a cup to place the applicator in urine as it did not supply one. All that comes in the pregnancy ... ...would definatly give it ten out of ten! Obviously it wasnt accurate only 2 months after i was pregnant. But when i took the pregnancy test after 2 months it came back positive which is a good sign!
The reason i bought this product is because i wasnt prepared to pay alot of money for something if i was unsure of them working, and good job i didnt get an expensive one! The cheapest i have seen them for is around 90 pence from homebargins. Overall ...
