My second child was due in July 06 and as my eldest child was about to turn 8, you can imagine the pram I had for her, while still in good condition, was very outdated. When buying a pram for the second time, you are much more aware of what exactly you want, having experienced the pros and cons of pram usage before!!
The two factors that were most important to me were being able to fit the frame and pushchair into my boot (I drove a ford Ka at the time) and having a pushchair that could face towards me so that I could talk and sing with this child as I had done with my first. I found that the majority of pushchairs on the market only faced away and the Quinny Buzz was one of the only pushchairs that offered me the choice of a forward or rearward facing seat.
As for fitting into my boot, I was having real problems with this. None of the pushcairs I looked at were
going to fit, until I saw the Quinny Buzz. The great thing about this is that the two large rear wheels clip off and on at the press of a button reducing the overall size of the frame for storage - BRILLIANT!!
I bought the whole travel system - pushchair, Maxi Cosi car seat and Dreami carrycot (as I think it`s important for small babies to lie flat for first few months) It actually worked out cheapest for me to purchase each item seperately on Ebay. I bought the frame and pushchair for £189, the Maxi Cosi car seat for £80 and the Dreami carrycot for £99 - all brand new and matching colour. This was fantastic value for money as the pushchair and car seat alone can retail for around £400!! It pays to shop around.
The carrycot is fantastic - it clips on and off the frame with ease, is so well padded and cosy and when the hood is up and cover on will protect your little one from all the elements; mine also came with a raincover. The inside padded lining comes out and is completely washable.
The Maxi Cosi car seat is great - easily clips on and off the frame, fits simply into your car and comes with a head hugger - vital until baby can hold their own head up. The shape of the seat adjusts underneath offering extra support for your small baby until it reaches a certain weight. You can get a rain cover and fantastically snug cositoes for the car seat.
The pushchair can be used forward or rearward facing -a factor which is essential for chatting to your child while out and about. It has three recline positions, adjustable straps andsafety bar that clips on and off to allow you to get your struggling child into the seat unit easily. It has a large hood which slides up and down easily and comes with a raincover. You can also get a full size footmuff for the pushchair which is extremely well padded and snug.
The sturdy frame has been well designed with a height adjustable handle - great for tall or small people!! The spring technology of the frame allows you to unfold it with one hand quite literally by the touch of a button. (It`s easier if you clip your wheels on first) The smaller front wheel is a swivel wheel, but can also be locked if you prefer. The large rear wheels clip off and on for storage and are ideal for ensuring that your pram is an all terrain vehicle - they are like large bouncy bicycle wheels - your pushchair comes with its own pump so that your rear wheels are always well inflated. The brakes are easy to use and very trustworthy.
The whole unit is so light and easy to push that I can easily carry my toddler in one arm, while pushing and manoeuvering the pram with the other.
To be fair, I must mention the one problem I have with the unit. Because of the width of the large rear wheels, you can occasionally find yourself unable to manoeuvre your way through the rails in clothes shops or through the occasional shop door. As this doesn`t cause me problems on a regular basis, It has in no way put me off - this pram has too many pros and only one small con!
Extra accessories available for the Buzz include a shopping basket which fits under the frame, a changing bag which clips onto the frame (and has its very own rain cover!!) and a parosol, all of which I have and use regularly.
I have since had my third child and she is getting use out of the whole Quinny Buzz system - I still love it and would strongly recommend it to anyone considering a pushchair or whole pram system. It has everything you will need and it looks fantastic!
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Advantages: Interact with child on a one to one, comfy for child Disadvantages: no instructions to fit the XL seat onto frame, very small shopping basket
