I was first introduced to Quinoderm about 10 years ago by a work colleague. I was going through a bit of an hormonal stage and having quite a few spots which were really bothering me. I happened to mention it to my colleague and she told me that she'd had a cream from the doctors years ago when she had really bad acne and she'd used it ever since and found it great. I couldn't really be bothered to go to my doctors about it, so I was really pleased when she said that it was now available to buy from a pharmacy. I tried to remember the name all day and when I left work, I went straight to Boots pharmacy counter and bought a tube.
Anyway, moving on from then, I have continued to use it ever since and now my teenage
children also use it.
ABOUT THE CREAM
The cream comes in a purple tube inside a purple box ( different to the picture they are using on Ciao, although the labelling is the same). There is a large orange Q and in white writing, the words- Quinoderm for acne. I buy the 25g tube although it is available in 50g, but I find this tube lasts absolutely ages and thats with 3 of us using it. The last time I bought it at Asda's pharmacy, it cost £2.98, which compared to other problem skin products, is very good value. It is only available to buy from a pharmacy though as it is pretty strong and if you've not used it before, you will be given advise on using it.
The tube has a screw top and can be easily squeezed. The cream is a yellowy-cream colour and is of a medium consistency, very easy to apply and rub in. There is an information leaflet included in the box, but basically, the directions for applying are to apply thinly two or three times daily by gently massaging over the affected area. I must say though, that after using it for a while, you will find out what works best for you as everyones skin sensitiviy is different. I find that genty massaging a very small amount into the spots at night time before I go to bed and again in the morning usually gives good results for me. Any more than that can leave my skin very dry. The cream is not at all greasy and rubs in very well and leaves your skin dry and matte, so you can use it in the day if you want and no-one can tell. Also for girls, you can apply your usual makeup over it with no problem and leave it to do its job undetected!
INGREDIENTS
The active ingredients which make this cream so effective are:- Benzoyl Peroxide BP 10% Potassium Hydroxyquinoline Sulphate BP 0.5%
It is advised to test your skin for overreaction before use as very sensitive skin could have a reaction to it. Also avoid use of other local treatments while using it.
MY OPINION
I have tried numerous spot/acne treatments over the years for myself and my teenagers and can honestly say that this is the only treatment that works very quickly and effectively. It is fairly cheap, lasts a very long time and is very easy and convenient to use.
Luckily, I very rarely suffer from spots these days due to my age, but I still get the odd spot and boil now and again. I find that if I gently massage some Quinoderm into the infected area as soon as I feel it coming up, it stops it in its tracks and is usually gone within a day.
My children, especially my son, suffers with slight acne and his skin is definitely worse if he forgets to apply the cream for a few days. When he does, you can see the improvement within a day or two. If you overuse the cream though, you will find that the area will become very dry so I would advise to keep the area thoroughly moisturized in between applications.
If you do suffer from spots or acne, I know from experience that you will try anything that might help as it can pull you down and can be very depressing, so if you haven't already tried it, I thoroughly recommend that you give it a go - at that price you've really nothing to lose, but you might gain a nice clear skin!!
