The product I have just finished off with my dinner tonight was the Deli ham flavoured slices. I think that apart from the Quorn sausages and the mince this is my favourite product of theirs.

The aroma that greets you when you rip open the packet is slightly off putting - a cross between tuna and corned beef and , so some disgruntled friends that I have occasionally breathed on after scoffing Quorn sarnies tell me, the smell does linger on the breath.

I was a vegetarian for about ten years - then, when I was pregnant I had the most awful cravings for meat. I gave in and am now a born again meat eater - mostly just chicken as I cant get used to the texture of meat this time round. Because of this I still buy a lot of veggie range items - apart from the fact that a lot of the time they do taste better and you don’t have to worry about biting into a lump of gristle.

The product I have just finished off with my dinner tonight was the Deli ham flavoured slices. I think that apart from the Quorn sausages and the mince this is my favourite product of theirs.
The packaging is a clear cellophane / plastic pocket, exactly the same as you would find real meat and chicken slices in. The sticker on the front of the packet bears the orange and green oval Quorn logo and a scrumptious looking picture of a poached egg and Quorn slice muffin.
The aroma that greets you when you rip open the packet is slightly off putting - a cross between tuna and corned beef and , so some disgruntled friends that I have occasionally breathed on after scoffing Quorn sarnies tell me, the smell does linger on the breath.
However get past this and for 100g you have usually around eight slices or a nice sized wodge if you have the wafer thin variety.
Once the packet is first opened the slices look a little strange, very bright pink with slightly pale brownish spots. The texture is a meaty texture but not slimy like a lot of packet hams - on the contrary the appearance is very dry but they are actually very moist and almost juicy. I would not describe the taste as ham like. It’s incredibly hard to define but definitely does NOT taste of corned beef or tuna (both of which I detest) There is a definite meat taste - almost a cross between ham and chicken and some sort of mild spice - doesn’t sound very appetising but is absolutely gorgeous.
The downside is that if you dont use straight away or seal in an airtight bag / container the slices do dry out quite quickly - within a day or so. The good thing is they are never in my fridge long enough for this to happen.
I use this product for nearly everything - on top of pizzas, in sarnies, gorge with salad just on its own you could scoff the whole packet in one sitting and it really doesn’t matter as it is so low in saturated fat.
The other varieties in the Deli range are:
Chicken flavour: This one is very juicy too but not as flavoursom as the ham variety, I found this quite bland but did taste of chicken. Have seen this in the wafer thin variety too.
Turkey and Stuffing flavour: Again very juicy and tasted overpoweringly of sage and onion stuffing and had a chickeny after taste. Tastier than the Chicken flavour but not as nice as the ham. Have only seen in sliced variety.
Bacon flavour rashers: Look yummy but haven’t tasted yet.
Pate: Not a big fan of pate so again have not tasted.
All the Quorn products are GM free and contain no preservatives, which I didn’t realise till just now after perusing the back of the packet.
Now - onto the fat bit - I cant praise this highly enough. For the whole packet of Quorn ham slices there is only 139 kcal and 0.5 saturated fat. Are you with me Weight Watchers? Thats a teensy tiny 2, yes TWO, points per WHOLE packet.
Two points.
For eight slices.
Great stuff!
The price at first glance may make you wince - £1.07 in Tesco’s but compare to a packet of full flavour ham of the same weight and you could be paying double that and you might as well double or triple the fat content too - so I would say the price is very reasonable. However it does vary anything up to 50p more dependant on where you shop.
The range can be found on the cold meats counter at your local supermarket - nestling amongst the ham, chicken and corned beef slices (for some reason) just begging to be bought. So what are you waiting for?
For recipes, history and more info visit the web site for the full range but don’t salivate too much as most shops only stock a miniscule amount of the actual Quorn range - then when you are hooked they will probably discontinue it (but hey, I‘m not bitter) : www.quorn.co.uk

This nearly had full marks but have deducted a bit for the smell as this nearly put me off and it would have been a great shame if it had.
Advantages: Low fat and tasty, free food on Slimming World Disadvantages: Texture a bit powdery, can work out expensive
The Quorn Deli range is a range of sliced sandwich style alternative meat. Quorn is made from mycroprotien and flavoured like meat. There is many other styles like Quorn sausage (available in cumberland sausage, sweet chilli, sizzling flavours) and Quorn pieces (tandori and chicken flavoured) and also mince style pieces. Quorn Deli slices come in turkey and cranberry, smoked ham, beef and chicken flavours.
Quorn is a really low fat alternative to ... ...The Deli range of Quorn does tend to be a bit powdery and doesn't look or feel like chicken slices would. The Deli slices are also quite dry so need to be accompanied by mayo or some other sauce. Buying Quron can also work out expensive, I try to stock up when there is a deal on in the supermarket. One pack of 8 slices can be up to £1.40 in some shops. The real plus about Quorn and the Quorn Deli range is that if you are on the Slimming World diet, ...

Advantages: low fat, vegetarian, healthy, tastes great Disadvantages: a little pricey and can be hard to get
...was tough. I discovered the quorn deli range while shopping online with asda, and I decided to try it. I was a little sceptical as some quorn products just arent to my tastes but as there was nothing else available of this product type, I ordered a pack or each one. Four types arrived with my shopping, chicken style slices, ham flavoured slices, turkey with stuffing slices and bacon style strips. Eager to try them I made a huge batch of sandwiches ... ...cant eat bread! haha!).
They come in easy to open packs, the kind with the solid plastic back and a pull down/off thin plastic front. they dont store well in the packs though as they are not resealable, so you need to put them in cling film of a resealable tub.
I love the texture of all these products, its good enough to be very close to that of real meaty slices and I found the flavour of the ham was very close to that of the real ham I used to ...

Advantages: Tastes like ham! Disadvantages: The artificial pink colour, powdery texture, can be pricey
When my sister put some Quorn deli ham-style slices into my shopping trolley a few days ago, I had my concerns because the 8 slices looked suspiciously pink, and uniform in colour and shape. I was also a little surprised she picked them up because she's an avid meat-eater and would never consider becoming a vegetarian.
The artificially-pink appearance of the slices, to be honest, really put me off and I procrastinated trying the ham. Now that I've ... ...a meat substitute and why she likes them so much. The slices smell just like ham, and they taste just like ham. I say this with conviction because I've only recently converted to being a vegetarian so I can still remember the taste of real ham :D
The downside of this meat is that it's a little powdery and dry, and would benefit from mayo or some other sauce in a sandwich (I used Japanese-style Kewpie mayo and it tasted great). For people who like ...

Quorn Deli comes in various shapes and sizes, chicken flavour, stuffed turkey, bacon flavour rashers, wafter thin deli (ham, chicken) and pate.
The price for 100g pack range from 1.29 onwards depending on the supermarket.
For 100g serving, you receive 8-10 slices of ham which not only smell similar to real ham but they taste similar to. As a veggie I find them so moorish, I can easily eat a whole pack and not be concerned with the calories as a ... ...which is perfect if you are watching your weight.
Ideal for sandwiches, ham and cheese (like the good ole days) Egg and Ham muffins (as shown on the pack)add to salads, the list is endless.
Whilst I am a huge fan of ham, because of the moorish taste and texture, the chicken version is the complete opposite, it's lack of smell and flavour make you feel as though you are chewing an old boot. However, with some shredded lettuce, tomatoe and Mayo, ...

Advantages: Excellent sandwich filling alternative Disadvantages: Some are better than others
...cranberry or stuffing makes the Quorn taste more interesting, especially for those who don't normally like Quorn.
There are usually eight slices in pack and then are unfortunately packaged like processed meat slices. Some supermarkets keep them with the Qourn/vegatarian range, but I note my local Tescos keeps them with the pre-packed meat slices. Not all supermarkets stock the full range and I have found that the chain supermarkets try and stock ... ...The pack contains 5 Quorn sticks and a reasonable sized sachet of satay sauce for approx £1.39. I note on the Quorn website that they do peppered 'beef' style slices so I will look out for them. All Quorn products are naturally low in fat and offer a good source of protein. Advantages: Healthy, low in fat and calories, easy to cook. Disadvantages: A little expensive, not like real bacon, what is mycoprotein???
Now before I start, I'm not a vegetarian. My lovely boyfriend is however, and through him I have sampled and tasted a LOT of Quorn and 'fake meat' products. One of the reasons I could never be a veggie is because I love bacon far too much. Said boyfriend introduced me to Quorn's Streaky Bacon Style Strips. I believe that other companies also offer 'bacon' products and I vaguely remember eating 'Realeat' bacon many moons ago and I have also seen some organic veggie bacon in an organic supermarket. For the most part when seeking veggie bacon, this Quorn product will be what you find in the supermarket freezer. It's worth nothing that they also stock Smoky Bacon StyleSlices and Deli Bacon Style too.
Where to buy:
Sainsburys, Waitrose or Asda, any supermarket with a frozen section. They should be in the 'Vegetarian' freezer cabinet ...
