If you have a dog then you will know how dirty and smelly they can get. What's worse is that if you have to put them in your car afterwards it often ends up in quite a mess and something you have to clean out afterwards. Generally we put Eddie in a cage in the back of our new car when we take him out as its a hatchback but in our old car the dog cage does not fit in the boot because its just a regular car so he has to sit in the front seat. We looked around for something to protect our seats when Eddie was in the car as they are a light coloured upholstery and found this really handy kit from the RAC which also includes a travel water bottle.
The car seat fits on really easy which is nice as then its not a pain when you want to take it off when a person is going to be travelling in the passenger seat and not the dog. It is easy to tell which way is the right way up and then it attaches to the seat to hold it well into place. What I really like about it is that you can unzip a portion of the seat so you can hook the seatbelt through. I still use the seat belt when Eddie is in the front as I hook it over his harness so I know he is safe when he is in the front seat. Also sometimes if we have not had time to take the seat cover off and someone needs to sit there it's really nice that you can still access the seatbelt for their safety too. The seat cover has plastic on the back of it and then on the front there is a plush like material which much make it nice and comfortable for your dog. Eddie seems to like it and loves snuggling up on it. According to the packaging the dog seat cover measures 142 cm (L) x 68 cm (W).The water bottle is a brilliant addition to this kit too as its something that you always need to remember to have to give to your dogs, especially in the hot weather and after travelling in a hot stuffy car. This bottle is really cleverly made and designed. The bottle is just a regular plastic water bottle but it sits in a plastic case which opens up and actually becomes a little water tray that allows your dog to drink out of it. I find this really handy as it means you do not have to bring a separate water bowl to put the water in, you can just use this and then it folds back away for your to store it easily and without mess.
There is also a window vent guard that comes with this back but I have to admit that I have never used it. Whenever we are in the car with the dog the air conditioning is on so he stays nice and cool in the car and then when we leave the car we never leave Eddie in it, he always comes out with us so there is no need for us to vent the car to stop him overheating. I always think leaving a window open a crack is asking for your car to be stolen so we never do it but I think this vent can be fitted to make sure the car is safe and protected. The kit cost £20 and is a good idea if you travel with your dog regularly.
