When I purchased my first car upon turning 17 I received 3 years free RAC cover with the deal. Fantastic. Fast forward 5 years and I have only ever used their service once, something I would consider to be a good thing.
However, my one single experience was a very positive one and I am now with them as a loyal member in my new car also. I thought I would share my experience to show the level of service that I received.

As I said, my level of cover came as part of the deal I got when purchasing Rex, (Rex being a now 5 year old black Hyundai Getz and my first true love) unfortunately though; Rex wasn?t the best of cars. He was cheap and cheerful and a perfect first car for a 17 year old girl. He however, started to show his cheaper quality after he turned 3 and a half.

The RAC was formed in 1897 as part of the Royal Automobile Club and uniformed parolmen appeared in 1901. You could describe as a cross between the police and army since their uniforms resembled both. Patrolmen used ride motorcyles carrying fan belts, spare petrol and few tools. Vans were only introduced in the 1960's phasing out the motorcylce.
The RAC is a large company and the range of products and services it offers gives a wider choice for the individual for any type of service required, Its simplicity in offering solutions based options with add-ons to suit your requirements. For example, onward travel allows you to get your vehicle recovered plus hire a car or hotel free of charge. European cover is also available at well as home call outs.

That was Sunday morning - 7.30am - on a road in the middle of nowhere on my way to the first mountain bike race of the winter. After the expected expletives and kicking of tyres at my bad luck I turned my attention to how to solve the predicament I now found myself in.
I got my Land Rover off the road the best I could (try pushing a fully laden Land Rover!) and then called the RAC. I have been a member for three years and never needed them ....until now.
The call was answered very swiftly and the operator proceeded to take my details. Now bear in mind I had absolutely NO idea of where I was at this point!
