RHS - A Great Gardening Institution
Advantages Comprehensive
Disadvantages None
The RHS is the Royal Horticultural Society. Currently celebrating its bicentennial year, the RHS is the foremost gardening institution and works tirelessly to inspire gardeners, encourage the highest standards and push the boundaries of horticultural knowledge.
Like the Society itself, the website is fully equipped to handle most queries about plants and related issues. Providing up-to-date information on the latest shows, as well as updates on any new pests or diseases which may have been found in the UK, it's a good first port of call when you need to look up information. The show coverage for the main RHS shows is excellent, last year they provided live camera links to various points in the show grounds as well as a full listing of exhibitors and other relevant information.
Their own on-line shop provides a wide range of gifts for all price ranges.A recent introduction is a section for RHS members. This is still in its infancy, with few features, but is intended to provide members with, among other things, an online facility for renewal of membership.
The RHS Plantfinder is an invaluable resource - simply enter the name of the plant you are seeking and it brings up a list of suppliers throughout the country. As a student of horticulture and, more importantly, a keen gardener, I have often found the answers to my questions on the RHS website.
