After owning the BlackBerry 7100 I am so pleased I now use the Blackberry 8700v.

Overview:

It delivers a dynamic, highly responsive experience when viewing attachments and graphics, browsing the web and running applications.

It has a bright high resolution screen which provides ample workspace for view email, web pages and using applications.

Main Features of the Device:

Quad Band (working on frequencies 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
GPRS and WAP
Bluetooth
Incorporated Email
MMS
64MB Internal Memory
Internet Browser
Predictive Text
Conference Calling

All of these fantastic features make the BlackBerry 8700 the ultimate office companion and allow you to work on the move.

It weighs roughly 130g and is 110mm x 69.5mm x 19.5mm which means it is harbours a large enough screen to work comfortable however is light and compact enough to hold in your pocket.

Wtih around 4 hours talk time and 380 hours standby time this device is certainly one to take with you on your travels. Especially as it is possible to acquire car kits and bluetooth headsets to safelty use the device whilst driving in line with the new UK legislation.

Now down to the personal experience stuff!

I find the full QWERTY keyboard much easier to use than the SureType options of the 7100 or 8100 and these buttons are responsive and hardwearing. I have had my device for over 18 months now and all of the printing on the keys is still there, there has been no fading or tarnishing.

The metallic grey casing is classy and professional allowing the device to be easily taken into the work place, out to the theatre or even round to the neighbours without it being garish or irritating.

There is a wide variery of ringtones and message alerts to avoid having to use obvious and irritating older sounds found on other mobile devices. One benfit to the message alrts tones is being able to set different sounds for SMS, MMS, Email and Level 1 messages allowing you to easily determine from the sounds your device makes whether you need to pick the message up.

There are a variety of themes available and the RIM website also offer other free theme which allow you to change the menu set up and look and feel of the device.

The wonderful screen allows you to set photographs or images as your wallpaper and displays the image in strong clear colour with no graininess or distortion.

You have the ability to view either a corporate/work email address and/or personal email addresses such as Yahoo, Hotmail etc... You can filter the messages that are shown to you in your inbox to include just received messages, or sent and received, along with SMS etc...

You are als able to view other folders createdunder your inbox from your desktop which means should you file work whilst in the office you are still able to access these messages when on the move.

The device allows you open a number of different attachments including jPeg, word, excel, etc... and also manipulate these documents if required.

You can also send and receive SMS and MMS just as you would on a mobile phone should you chose to.

There is a fully working calender with all the functions of your desktop calender which provides you with reminders etc which can have alarms set to them also.

You have the ability to chose from exisitng profiles or create new ones, and I would advise anyone who takes their devices into meetings to set themselves up with a silent profile when they first receive this device as unlike with mobile phones there is no "silent" option built in.

Your address book reconciles with your Outlook contacts and therefore means you only need to add/edit contacts on either your device or desktop and it will reconcile automatically.

These devices also have a number of applications available such as BlackBerry Messenger, which works similarly to other messenger set-ups such as MSN or Yahoo. Alternatively you can also add Yahoo messenger to your device and communicate that way.

There is also a calculator, picture gallery, Memo pad, Tasks list, Alarm clock, and a variety of games. The device usually comes with a couple of card games on however you can download more from the RIM website via your device.

Of course you can browse the internet using your BlackBerry 8700 and there are also bookmarks already stored to the RIM pages to allow you to download extra applications, games, tones and pictures etc...

The other aspect to the BlackBerry is of course the phone element. Just as with a mobile phone you can use this device to make and receive calls and the sound quality is in fact very good. Although slightly chunkier than most mobile phones the ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and use. It has all the normal call log functions and well as in-call features such as muting the line and putting the caller on hold.

All in all this device has a number of wonderful useful features and, if intended to be used primarily as a work based device, is something I would highly recommend to anyone. It is slightly more complicated to set up initially than a mobile phone, however clear software wizards allow you to individually activate your device or use a company IT helpdesk to set the device up on a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server). Once it is all set up and working however the ease of use and time saving features mean I certainly would not be without mine now!
