I thought I would write my landmark “100th opinion” about something I really do appreciate, in this case it is a certain “ROBBIE FOWLER” (known to us Liverpool fans as GOD).
This guy has got to be the most Honest and down to earth Player in the game, and is totally adored by EVERY single true Liverpool fan, despite missing the majority of games in the last few seasons and constantly getting a lot of bad press off the media.
Robbie was born on April the 9th 1975 and was brought up on a rough housing estate in the Toxteth area of Liverpool (scene of the infamous riots), as a youngster he was actually a Evertonian (he hasn’t always been perfect LOL), while attending Nugent Secondary School, he was selected for the Liverpool under 14’s team and was spotted by Liverpool scout Jimmy Aspinall, two years later he signed schoolboy forms for Liverpool, after turning down his childhood heroes Everton.
Fowler burst on to big time scene in 1993, when he immediately showed the world that he is the most natural goal-scorer the country has seen, since a certain Jimmy Greaves, by scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win League Cup win over Fulham and really hitting the heights in the second leg by unbelievably scoring ALL FIVE goals in the second leg (only his THIRD senior game), and then went on to score a hat-trick against Southampton in only his fifth league game and ended his first ever season by finishing leading scorer for Liverpool with 18 goals, and this was despite suffering an unlucky hairline fracture and missing 2 months of the season.
The next season Fowler went on to score at an incredible rate, and also scored the fastest hat trick the Premier League has witnessed, with a quick-fire hat-trick (4 mins 32 secs) against Arsenal at Anfield and once again finished the season as Liverpool’s top goal-scorer.
Over the next few seasons Fowler carried on his remarkable record, but began to blot his copybook by getting into one or two problems and he also started to suffer from regular injury problems, which halted his progress and his England career suffered.
As I’ve said Fowler has a habit of getting himself noticed for the wrong reasons i.e. Getting charged with dis-repute for bearing his bottom in a match against Leicester, the infamous incident with Graemne Le Saux and the line sniffing incident in the local derby against rivals Everton (but I must agree, this action was justified as the Everton fans had given him a terrible time over the news that his sister was supposedly addicted to drugs) and more recently he has twice been attacked (by Everton fans) whilst out in the town centre.
The thing that no-one ever seems to mention about Fowler is the incredible incident versus Arsenal, when going through on goal he fell over Seaman and the referee gave a penalty, Robbie immediately jumped up and said to the ref it was not a penalty and he fell over (thus saving Seaman from getting sent off), now how many of today’s players would do that and also the incredible support Fowler and team-mate Steve McManaman showed to the Liverpool Dockers, during the much publicised Liverpool Dockers strike, where they donated huge amounts of their wages to the Dockers and their families as well as bearing T-Shirts supporting them.
Over the last season or two, Fowler has had a dreadful time with injury after injury, and loss of form, and this seemed to attract the gutter press to start off no end of sensational stories about Fowler, and despite Liverpool boss Gerald Houllier constantly stating Fowler is “NOT FOR SALE” and actually making him captain of the team (albeit in club captain Jamie Redknapps absence), and Fowler himself stating he is not interested in moving from Liverpool, they just wont give up, constantly linking him with Chelsea, Arsenal, Rangers, Celtic, Middlesboro, etc.
This season began with gloom for Fowler as he failed to establish himself as a first team regular due mainly to the incredible form of Emile Heskey and Michael Owen, and more injuries and many a Liverpool fan was beginning to think the unthinkable “Maybe Robbie will leave”, but NO over the past few weeks Fowler has begun to show his old brilliant form with some superb link-up play and one or two of his trademark goals.
So here’s to Fowler steering clear of injuries and bad publicity, and getting back to his very talented best, which would benefit not only Liverpool, but England too.
I’ll end with a message to all the gutter-press people out there; leave the lad alone as he is GOING NOWHERE! And has no intention of leaving Liverpool.
this player would have been good for england in recent and future mtches if he hadnt been plaqued with a succession of injuries. The man is a good finisher but he could do with becoming a little bit more mature as his goal celebration when he pretended to sniff cocaine showed. if this player gets fit and back in form he could make a great influence on the england team as he has pace and good finishing.he could even link up well with his team mate ...

Advantages: Nice bloke, great touches, not bad for a Liverpoolian` Disadvantages: Immature
The glue sniffing business against Everton last season (1999/2000) is a classic illustration of Robbie's typical character. It was stupid and he was apologetic about the guesture afterwards. He is not good enough for England's first eleven and is on the edge of the England 22. I think up front, M.Owen and K.Philips should start with A.Cole and R.Fowler on the bench. I think a rotation should be in place. I know I have missed out Heskey but I have ... ...think the partnership between he and M.Owen is not amazing.
R.Fowler should be started for England although I fear he may miss out at Liverpool in which case he is in danger of being dropped by Keegan. Keegan is a strange manager who is petrified of change. I wish he would swap his squad around a bit - try a bit of experimentation. We saw far to much of Beckham/Seaman/Shearer in Euro 2000. We should have used those matches to strengthen our squad ...

...the chance he deserved against malta in a friendly, or in euro 2000? heskey is nowhere near the player that fowler is, but still he gets the nod ahead of the toxteth terier. i only hope that keegan sees the light and affords robbie the chance he deserves. ...

Advantages: Great insight into what goes on behind the scenes in football Disadvantages: Written before Fowler rejoined the reds so another chapter needed
...tag was all about, why Robbie never really got his chance with England and anything else you can care to mention, this will give you the answers. Of course it is a one sided view but it is fascinating none the less. At times it can get a bit repetitive as Robbie says he is just a lad from Toxteth a hundred times but you didn't really expect writing of the highest order did you? What you do get is Robbie's story from the very beginning playing for ... ...this is a surprisingly addictive read. For me personally as a Liverpool fan who remembers when Robbie burst onto the scene there were so many memories as I read the book. Add to this loads of photos too and this is a book that every football fan should read. ...

...that someone as young as Robbie Fowler coiuld be said to be past it, but i think that it is true. he used to be the bees knees and banging in the goals whenever he played. Now he is constantly on the treatment table, and he seems to have lost all confidence in his ability to score, as shown by his dreadful penalty on Thursday. he is no longer first choice at Liverpool, because he does not play well with Owen- Heskey is better, so why is he playing ...

In my opinion RobbieFowler is the best most potent natural goal scorer in the country or anywhere in the world for that matter. We will soon see this season what Robbie can do when in form and fully fit. This player wears the number 9 shirt with pride he really does play for the shirt. Every Liverpool fan in the world should think this player is brilliant and worth his salary. As for being picked for England I would have him being the first person on my team sheet, he really is that good. Make no mistake forget Andy Cole and Kevin Phillips the two best strikers for England are RobbieFowler and Michael Owen. ...

Advantages: Steven Gerrard: a class act Disadvantages: Owen and Heskey for England???
Well, went to see my third team (Palace) play the mighty Liverpool last night, and, to my delight, win a sizzling cup-tie. My purpose of writing this review is not to boast - it was a spectacular result but Liverpool will probably turn it around at Anfield - but to ponder as to how on earth Liverpool can be so inconsistent.
For anyone who watched the game live, or the highlights on ITV, Heskey and Owen between them played their own game of 'miss of the season', with both blazing over from about five yards early on, and Owen and Barmby both missing one-on-ones in the second half too. Litmanen shows some nice touches but after all these years of Liverpool's problems being up front, at the moment it's the finishing that's off.
And they have their best finisher - RobbieFowler - sitting at home. Liverpool are a good side and usually ...
