Race Driver: Create&Race (NDS)

Advantages: Fun characters, different tracks, multiplayer, simplistic
Disadvantages: Doesn't take advantage of the dual screen

...Mario Kart for DS is a very addictive racing game, whilst theirs no plots or quests to complete, this game is fun and multiplayer. You have ten familiar characters to select as your driver and lots of fun tracks from the regular race track to a tropical island. You can pick from Grand Prix which is regular racing, Time Trial which allows you to compete against time and then one on one racing. All provide hours of fun, I can't stress enough how this game is wonderfully addictive. All characters come with two cars, the cars and characters must be unlocked which is done by you winning the races. The game itself is very simplistic but I think it's this quality that makes it so appealing to all ages. It's great that you have the option to play alone or play other people using wi-fi. ...This game is great, it combines realism with playability to create on the Playstations best racing games. It features all the races, tracks and drivers from the British Touring Car Championship, including tracks like Silverstone and Brands Hatch. Racing is fast and furious, and unlike the ultra clean F1, Touring Cars demands plenty of contact with other cars and basically barging other cars out of the way. The graphics are a little basic, but do the job, but the sound is good. What sets this game apart is the nature of the close pack racing, every race is different and fun, and it is a lot more exciting than the likes of F1 '97. The even better TOCA 2 (and even 3) is out now, so I would recommend one of them instead, although this game is still fun.... Read review

...I know what you're thinking. On your mind must be that they are trying to milk off the success of Mario Kart DS and that this is just a rip-off. However, although this is nowhere near as good, it is evident that they haven't used Mario Kart as their influence... This game is a redeveloped version of the N64 game. Although it is a remake, there are differences. A couple of characters have been replaced and also the game utilises the microphone and WiFi, features that the N64 didn't have. The aim of the game is the same as any racing game, race in races and become the best. Overall, this game is enjoyable. It is no Mario Kart DS, but the cute, loveable characters and good-enough racing make it a game worth looking at.... Read review
