The B2 does it bomb? Advantages: Base unit is highly portable, visibility of unit in situ Disadvantages: Lots of wires to connect before you can get started The Origin B2 comes in a very discreet white box with plenty of good instructions - but also a kit like that from Blue Peter. The unit cradle needs plugging in to the accessory 12v supply. The GPS unit needs a wire running to its location on the dash board and the (optional and currently legal) laser detector needs the same amount of wiring. The installation is not for the faint hearted - get someone who is confident to install it for you. The installation ... ...to use/update. The locations of all blackspots, schools and fixed camera sites and highlighted when on the move. The vooice warning is crystal clear reminding you of the speed limit of the area you are in. The schools programming is smart it will only trigger during the danger times (start, end and lunch) and not during august. Please allow me to snoop Advantages: simple installation, easy to use, detects all speed cameras up to 2 miles away Disadvantages: bleeps an clicks are annoying ...I bought a second hand Snooper S5-R from my brother in law, a device he had used without issue for 3 years. When originally purchased it cost £199.99, yet I managed with a sweet smile and much begging to get it for £50. The Snooper is a small black box powered from the cigarette lighter of the car and sits on the dashboard alerting the driver to static speed cameras (GATSO) and mobile laser speed cameras. When I say that the box is small I mean ... ...I would strongly recommend the Snooper S5-R. It works and works well, requires no software or updates meaning that once it is positioned in the car it is ready to go and ready to save your licence from endorsement. A great device, well worth the money! Advantages: Great preventative measure, easy to fix & use Disadvantages: A little over-sensitive! ...that wasn't over sensitive (the Snooper S5 was prone to this) and that covered all 'bands' (i.e the frequencies that the camera sensors 'emit' on). The SD815is was a relatively new model. It was extremely small and compact and covered the 5 bands. I bought it directly from the Snooper website (www.snooper.co.uk) as they had the most competitive prices. I paid online (Switch) and my Snooper arrived within 2-3 days. It was well packed and once I had ... ...bigger than the palm of your hand), a lead (to connect the device to power source in the car) suckers and velcro. Once I had decided to use the suckers (just make sure the sensor receptor area is clear from obstruction) and plugged it into the cigarette lighter, that was it! DriveSmart OK but terrible customer service Advantages: Free database updates Disadvantages: Customer service is appalling Having bought my drivesmart and got it working I at first found the Forum on the web site useful. Customer service was slow and emails had clearly not been read... replies bore no relation to the questions asked. But the device itself was good and the promised free updates materialised. I do wonder about these updates however as some corrections I sent were never included. Is the database accurate? You won't know until or unless you are caught by ... ...the device had a fault. Emails and phone calls to the company went completely without reply, I have never heard from them again. The forum is now not working so support from that is non existant too. Luckily the company from which I purchased the unit were able to help me out. Database updates do continue to appear regularly. My advice would be not to buy. I suspect that the company are in trouble .. or that if they are not now they soon will be ... Gives you a sporting chance... Advantages: Excellent detection range for both Radar and Laser based speed traps, full info display, voice alert, effective against Ku band Mini GATSO cameras Disadvantages: Will nor spot passive devices such as SPECS and TRUVELO, planned to make it along with other detectors of it's type illegal in 2006 NOW BEFORE I START THIS REVIEW. I AM NOT CONDONING DANGEROUS DRIVING OR UNNECESSARY SPEEDING. The Bel Euro 550 is an updated and enhanced verison of the Bel 980 I reviewd earlier-some of the review will be duplicated but not everybody is going to want to read two reviews to get info about one product so here goes.. So after a discussion, I recommended the Euro 550. The Euro 550 is the current top of the range detector available from Bel and available through a number of suppliers.
