I remember my Mum having a box of Radox bath salts in the bathroom for soothing aching muscles, so that is going back over 50 years ago! By the time I got married Radox had produced a liquid version of the bath salts and by the 1970's shower gel had come on the scene. Liquid soap for hand washing followed later as did bath essences, now 100 years after the first Radox bath salts there is a very up-market range of bath essences and a new shower product called "Shower smoothies", as well as other a range of other shower gels.
I love free samples, who doesn't? So recently on Pigsback when there was a chance of a sample I sent in my details and was pleased to see I was lucky enough to get a 50ml sample called "Soul Soother". It was a pretty pink colour creamy mixture, not the usual gel like consistency. The tube stands on it's flip lid, so is always ready for action , and the lid is easy enough to flip one handed and with wet hands. I read the front of the bottle and discovered that I had received "An indulgent, creamy chamomile shower smoothie with blackcurrant and real cranberry seeds". I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the instructions "PLEASE DO NOT DRINK". But when I opened the tube I could understand why, as it smelled good enough to consume! I don't know what chamomile smells like, but the fragrance is fruity and sweet, not something my husband would choose to use, so that was good as I wanted this all to myself! The tube is clear, so easy to see how much is left and allows you to see the pretty smoothie mixture.
I couldn't wait to try it out and next day in the shower squeezed some onto my wet hand and rubbed the creamy smoothie onto my body. Oh, what was that? A seed! Yes a whole seed! I thought the seeds might help exfoliate my skin, but it wasn't sore rubbing it in and the creamy smoothie left my skin feeling soft and smooth. The smell was lovely and I realised this was more of a relaxing smoothie - the clue was in the name Soul Soother! Oh well I was in for a very relaxed day!
I smelled my skin later that morning and was surprised that the lovely fragrance still lingered and my skin still felt soft. I was very pleased with my free sample and decided to look out for the product next time I was shopping. Pleased to say this week in Tesco it was available at £2.48 on a buy 1 get 1 free offer for a 200 ml tube. There are two other smoothies, Natural Balance, a mixture of luxurious yogurt and honey with hyssop and soft almond bits and Energy Therapy which is described as an uplifting ginseng and guarana smoothie with lemongrass and soft loofah bits, zingy and bursting with energising ingredients - this is the one for me in a morning then!
Warning if it gets in your eyes rinse well with clean water, and if someone does accidentally drink it ring your GP or A&E for advice.
Any disadvantages? Yes A few seeds left in the shower, so I had to rinse the shower out more carefully! But I must admit that won't stop be buying Radox smoothies as I enjoyed my shower experience too much to worry about a few seeds!
