ICY BOX can be considered as a top-end hard disc enclosure with sophisticated looks and a great finish it creates a very modern look complete with neon blue lights on its edges.
I bought the ICY BOUGHT to install a 250 GB Maxtorhard disk I bought to act as extra storage space for my laptop, whose 100 GB had filled up quickly with a growing collection of media files. The plug and play nature also lets me transfer large files between PCs and my laptop if needed.
Installation of a hard disc is very easy thanks to easy access provided by the four thumb screws which are simply to remove by hand. The IDE and power cables then simply slot into the appropiate slots on the rear of the hard disc.
The enclosure is for a 3.5" hard drive with ATA-133 connectivity. The device is a nice size to sit on a desk with dimensions of 11.7 cm (h) x 22 cm (l) x 3.7 cm (d). The power supply is provided by a removal cable that connects at the rear of the enclosure and supports a 230V UK 3 pin plug.
Performance provided by the USB 2.0 cable is very fast with the hard drive performing upto disc speed. One disadvantage I would say is the slightly noisy operation when the disk is initially turned on with my ICY BOX though this may be due to the age of the hard disc I have installed, though operation is quiet thereafter.
Overall the ICY BOX is a great product that fits well onto a desk providing much needed disk space in this information age.
The ICY BOX is available at a wide range of online retailers with price starting at around £17 excluding delivery, which often adds an extra £5 which is worth noting.

Why not simply install the drive into the case alongside your existing drive? Or does this drive enclosure just "look cool"? What size drive does it take? Does it have a power supply built-in? Lots of answers to questions unanswered - the trick is to answer those questions as the reader thinks of them, then your review ratings will improve. Good start, just need something to make it spin-up...

Advantages: Easy to install, easy to use, instant storage Disadvantages: Novelty of blue light wears off quickly! Doesn't come with stand as image shows
