Advantages: An interesting read Disadvantages: A little bit gory in places
...The Bone Vault written by Linda Fairstein is the latest book that I have just read. I have not read any of this Author's previous works although I was aware that the predecessor to this novel, the Deadhouse, was an International best seller.
This book fits neatly into the category of crime fiction but the authenticity of how Met Assistant DA Alexandra Cooper handles the crimes in this gripping story is what sets this book apart from many books on a similar theme that I have read. This may have something to do with the fact that the Author of this work, Linda Fairstein is America's foremost prosecutor of crimes, specialising in the area of sexual assault and domestic violence. Linda Fairstein has run the Sex Crimes Unit of the District Attorney's Office in Manhattan for more than 20 years, and it is without a doubt that in this book...

Advantages: A masterpiece of English literature that defies categorisation Disadvantages: A flawed trilogy, let down by the third book
...The Gormenghast trilogy is without a doubt two of the finest books in English literature. Yes, I know a trilogy implies three books, but more of that later. It is often classified as fantasy but this is a misnoma because it contains no fantastic creatures, no magic and no intelligent races other than its citizens. To refer to Gormenghast as fantastic would be a more appropriate description of its almost gothic, often surreal style. The real strength of the work is not in its plot but in its vivid narrative, fascinating characters and often breathtaking set pieces. The Gormenghast books are a feast for the visual thinker, one whose mind's eye can translate text into imagery.
It is worth noting that an attempt to dramatise the first twobooks by the BBC some years ago was a critical failure because I believe the scale and complexity...

Advantages: In depth and descriptive, Disadvantages: some people may find it a bit long
...Firstly I am going to tell you I love big, thick, chunky books that you can really get your teeth into (metaphorically speaking of course!) This is one of those books. 552 pages jam packed with excitement.
Surprisingly this book is about a bakers boy named Jack. Ok so that's not surprising but the fact that Jack isn’t your ordinary run of the mill bakers boy is. He runs away from his bakers life in castle Harvell and on his journey meets up with another fugitive called Melli who is running away form an arranged marriage. Individually and together these to get into many scrapes but the bond built in adversity keeps them together.
Another traveller is a main character in this book; his name is Tawl and he is a knight of Valdis on a seemingly impossible mission. This mission send’s him to many places including the haunting...
