"Best Greasy Spoon in Cardiff"

One of the most renowned hangover cures in Cardiff when I was a student was to drag yourself out of bed, wake up your housemates and drift down the road to Ramones.

Situated just behind the student union, it's a regular haunt not just for students, but for all variety of people, from manual workers to suit-and-tie businessmen, and there's a reason for that.

Ramone's simply doesn't skimp on the portions. Whilst they have pretty full menu of the standard things you'd expect in such places (Sausage beans & chips, omlettes, Roast meals on Sundays etc.) the big draw of the place always has been, and probably always will be, it's famed all-day-breakfasts.

They Start at Ordinary, go through special and up to Super-mega sized meals. Now the ordinary will normally fill your average human being, but the super-mega was a challenge to anyone. Beyond that exists the 'Rob's Grill', a meal so big it needs two plates (I Kid you not).

The food isn't fancy by any means, it's good old fashioned standard fare, made to taste good and fill you up, which it invariably does.

The easiest way to sum up their approach is anecdotal. After a heavy night out my household drifted down one sunday morning. One of them wasn't feeling great so opted for a light meal (The Spanish Omlette in this case). Five minutes later the said meal arrived, the omletter filling the whole plate, the side order of chips and salad on a second plate.

Now that's a meal.

I like your writing style and the op on Cardiff's greasy spoon. Being a fan of north wales(the family and I holiday there a lot)this op title caught my eye. A wonderful lambshank cafe in Bala north wales called "sospan Fauch"(or something like that) was Heaven! We laughed 'cos the second word sounded like the swear word when we tried to pronounce it. I love the welsh people...Good op. chrissie.x
