We bought a Rangemaster Elan 90dual fuel cooker as part of a fitted kitchen we had installed in December 2006 - It has not disappointed us. We take food seriously, enjoy cooking and entertaining, so wanted something which both looks the part and does the job.
Whilst we were looking for our new cooker, a sales person told us that with this one, you can cook six chickens at once! So far, we haven't had the need to put that into practice, but don' t doubt that she was correct - six big chickens at that, I think six was a conservative estimate.
The cooker is moveable and is fitted with a safety chain to remind you that it is connected to the gas supply! It was supplied with a good instruction booklet from the manufacturer and a 12 months parts and labour guarantee.
Firstly, its general appearance is very good, it looks like a professional appliance and has plenty of cooking space on the hobs and in the ovens. Being black and silver in appearance, it is quite striking to look at and is a great feature of the kitchen.
The gas hob has five burners with the central burner being the largest. It can be used as a Wok burner with the ring attachement provided. The attachment is designed for a 14 inch Wok which is quite a large pan! Anything smaller does not sit on the burner correctly.
There's also a Hot Plate / Grill attachment which can be located on either side of the Wok burner, or removed completely if you need the burners for conventional pans. The hob controls are large and located on the front of the oven, alongside the timers controls and oven and grill contorls. They and easy to operate and have a single push button igniter to light all hobs.
The hob is easy to dismantle and clean when required, and after several months of regular use, still looks as good as new.
Two electric ovens and an electric grill are located below the hob. One oven is conventional 'oven shape' and the other is taller and thiner. The main oven has moveable shelves and a roasting tin attached to the door. The roasting tin it can be easily reached when the door opens, and a light. It has several settings depending on what you are cooking. The roasting tin can be removed if you dont want to use it.
The fan setting works very well and everything we have cooked in it so far has cooked very well. Yorkshire puddings are always a good test for ovens, and they come out a treat!
There is a defrost setting and several permutaions of top and bottom heat sources as well as the fan oven. The oven settings are easy to understand simply by looking at the icons on the control knob. There is a seperate temperature control knob next to the oven selector knob.
The tall oven has its own temperature control on the right hand side of the cooker. This oven cooks roasts etc perfectly well. There are five moveable shelves and a plate warming rack in the bottom which is very handy. Most times, we don't need two ovens but at Christmas or when entertaining friends, its very handy to have two.
The grill works fine although we have not used it a great deal, It can be used either as a full grill or just half as it is quite large. Again, as with the oven controls, the icons on the grill knob make it easy to understand exactly what you are turning on.
The only bit of the cooker we haven't used is the timer fuctions, simply because we haven't needed to. I've looked at them and they would be easy to operate in the event of needing to set the oven by timer whilst you were away from home.
All in all, I would describe this cooker as great for those who love food and take their cooking a bit more seriously. It looks the part, does the job and has that WOW factor when you walk into a kitchen. Ours is fitted with the black splash back and hood which makes it look even more impressive. Six chickens or not, it certainly has not disappointed us since we purchased it.
