Advantages: Quick, cheap, easy to use, helpful customer service, excellent cover Disadvantages: Can't think of any
As my home buildings and contents insurance was up for renewal very shortly I started to look around for a decent quote. My current insurers (Barclays Bank) had sent me a quote of £395.00 which was more than the previous year and over £60.00 more than when I took the policy out three years ago. As I had had no claims whatsoever on the policy I wanted to know why the premium had risen so much. I was given a load of "blurb" from customer ... ...the spot.
This left me about 3 days to get new insurance cover so I scoured the yellow pages and the phone book looking for companies that had web sites as I had decided to try and go through the net to fond a new policy. This should be quicker, easier and less expensive than ringing all the insurance companies up.

I tried all the usual "big" companies like Churchill, Halifax, Direct Line etc. and most were quite a bit cheaper than Barclays, with the exception of Direct Line who were more expensive but I have found them to be expensive in every type of insurance I have had a quote for so that was no surprise.
Then I came across an ad for 1st Quote card and home insurance (http://www.1stquote.co.uk) and thought I'd give it a try. The web site loaded very quickly and even speaks to you (which is novel). The site is extremely easy to use and the quotation process does not ask loads of stupid useless questions. In fact, I didn't think it had asked enough questions but when I got to the policy premium page I sat up and took notice. It was just under £200.00 LESS than Barclays and about £100.00 LESS than the next nearest!! Ok I thought, the price is good but what about the cover? Well, the site only gives a very basic list of what is covered but it was enough to persuade me to take out the policy on the spot. I thought that if the policy details are rubbish when I get them through, I still have my right to cancel.
The policy documents came 2 days later (it was late afternoon when I took the policy out on the internet) and frankly I was amazed!! The cover was not only comparable with the Barclays policy but was actually better in some places. Fot a start the excess on the new policy was only £50.00 on everything (including subsidence) where it had been £100.00 with Barclays and £1000.00 for subsidence. The new policy included an automatic 10% increase in cover for Christmas and weddings - FREE. Everything to do with the home, inside and out, is covered. I feel better protected now than I did with Barclays, and for £200.00 less!!!
The day after I was 'phoned by a member of customer services to make sure that the policy was ok and to arrange for my monthly payments to be taken from my bank account. The person was very friendly and hgelpful and gave me his name so I had someone to contact in the future if I had any problems. I was very impressed!
I would highly recommend this insurer to everyone. If you are looking for good cheap house insurance in the UK, try http://www.1stquote.co.uk
I had never bought travel insurance before, never mind online, and so I really did not know what to expect. I had some quotes from travel agents, as part of a package holiday, but other people had warned me that there were much cheaper options available. I also wanted insurance that would arrive quickly as I was going on the holiday within the next 10 days.
RapidInsure.co.uk lived up to its name. It is extremely easy to use and navigate, and it only takes a couple of clicks to get a quote and process payment. All the information on the site is clearly laid out. Details are given of relevant contact numbers, how to make a claim, the 24 hour emergency medical line, and the levels of cover provided. I found the cover to be good- the main thing I wanted was cancellation insurance as well as medical, and this was provided. hThe company is ...
Advantages: none i can see Disadvantages: happy to take your money but won't pay out in my experience
Don't do it. I was a happy customer for many years, until I needed them; I hadn't made a claim in 6 years of so called cover! Then I dropped my TV onto laminate floor whilst redecorating my dining room. I think ok I'm' covered for accidental damage NOT SO! rapidinsure base their claims on a third party inspectorate CIIS who will use any reason to not pay ( I smell end of year rebate between the two company's based on money saved) they failed to take all evidence into account and base their assessment on two recorded phone calls, hardly a good business model, at no point was I visited by a rep of the company to explain the incident. I'm kind of glad it was only a small claim that made me realise the cover is not worth the paper it's written on, thank god it wasn't a kitchen fire or burst pipe flooding as it took four months to get ...
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Frustrating not being able to buy
After reading a comment on rapidinsure I tried to book a weeks travel insurance over the web.
For over a week now their site displays the following message:-
"Due to circumstances beyond our control RapidInsure.co.uk is currently unable to take payment. You are however free to continue viewing the site, and the newly-updated Member Services area is now available for existing customers to use".
I've since found a number of cheaper travel insurance providers and have booked my insurance elsewhere. For a good list of online travel insurance providers take a look at www.find.co.uk ...
