I study Spanish at school, but still wanted to get an advantage for my first trip there. I bought this CD from play.com. I uploaded it onto my iPod and listened to it all the way there. Earworms uses a unique method of music (don't worry it's not a great spanish sing along) there is a voice that speaks over a beat like this Hello (beat beat) Hola (beat beat) Hello etc. It progresses onto much harder things towards the end of the C.D. And the great thing is, it dosen't even feel as if you have to try to learn it. I was greatly supprised when I arrived in Spain having learnt a great deal of words. Although it did mean I was landed the responsibility of ordering all the food on holiday. A really productive and affordable way to learn Spanish, there is also a second volume featuring more complex words and phrases. ...

How old is YOUR brain?!

Advantages: Makes you feel clever :o)
Disadvantages: Doesn't always speak English

and you have to write the answer on the bottom row. Hard to explain, easy to play! Time Lapse - You are given 2 clocks and you have to write down how long has passed from the first clock to the second. Voice Calculation - A bit like the calculations x20 but you have to say the answer instead of writing it. --Brain Age Check-- After a while of playing the game you are given a 'cheat' which allows you to pick which tests you do in order to calculate your brain age. Until then, these tests are chosen at random, the tests include: Word Memory - You are given 2 full pages of words and you have to remember as many of them as possible in 2 minutes Stroop Test - A series of colours (in words) come up. You have to say the colour of the word instead of the colour the word says (sounds confusing but really isnt!) Speed Counting - counting from 1 ...

Review of Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?

Long and absorbing - good memory essential

Advantages: Very well written, imaginative storyline, good characterisation
Disadvantages: Hard going in parts, over-long retrospective passages

what had happened – mind you I probably took longer to read it than Elizabeth George did to write it! As with the other Inspector Lynley books, we get to know her characters intimately, and the home lives of the main detectives plays a prominent role in the story line. Whilst ‘A Traitor to Memory’ is overlong in my opinion and for that reason not the best book in this series, it is still a great mystery. It does not read as fast as her other books due to the inclusion of numerous, self-retrospective sections narrated by Gideon. These are quite slow paced compared to the other Lynley novels and I found myself flicking through some of these. Take these sections out though and the book simply races along, as you would expect with an Elizabeth George novel. She is very skilled at weaving subplots into her stories ...
