When I was pregnant with my first child my midwife recommended that from 35 weeks I should start drinking raspberry leaf tea. Seeing as I do not drink any hot drinks she said that they also came in tablet form. Taking raspberry leaf tea/tablets is supposed to help to soften your cervix making labour quicker and easier. You have to take the tablets 3 times a day. With this being my first pregnancy and being out at work I sometimes forgot to take the tablets regularly. My labour was quite quick and fairly easy.

With my next two pregnancies I took the tablets religously every day from 34 weeks and they definately helped. My labours were definately quicker and easier. I had to be induced with the last two pregnancies and when I was given an internal the midwife said that my cervix was really soft and asked if I had been taking raspberry leaf.
She said that she could tell if a womaen had been taking them and strongly recommended them.

You should check with your midwife before you begin taking the raspberry leaf tea/tablets because I found that different midwife's and doctors said to begin taking them at diffrent times. One pharmacist even told me that you could begin taking them at 24 weeks, but my midwife said that this could bring on labour. Most people that I spoke to recommended 35 weeks as a good time to begin taking them.

You can purchase raspberry leaf tea/tablets from good pharmacists of health shops such as Holland & Barratt. Mine cost me £3:99 for 60 tablets. For me they definately worked and I will be taking them towards the end of my next pregnancy. I have recommened raspberry leaf to many friends and they have all said that there labours were definately easier and quicker.
