4 Stars Ratchet goes RPG? Review with images 16/03/2004

Advantages Advantages Replayability = value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes a bit too linear

After enjoying the first in this series so much, I threatened my husband with divorce if I didn’t get this game for Christmas. Luckily for me (and him), he decided to opt for a peaceful December and get me it. From the minute you look at the box you can tell it’s a sequel; the logo is the same, the picture is drawn in the same style, and it often takes two glances for me to tell which game I have in my hand. This isn’t a downside – some sequels don’t seem to have built up any sort of identity, and you don’t get a feeling of familiarity when buying them, but with R&C2 you feel that familiar ... more

Advantages Advantages Brain Intoxicatingly Good Fun For Both Young And Old

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some Minor Niggles, Can Be Difficult In Parts

Unlike the movie industry, when a sequel to a computer game comes around, the programmers and designers are far better at realising the mistakes they made the first time round. Look at the Police Academy films for flips sake, they're a constant reminder of how not to do anything ever, anywhere. Anyhow. I can't say much really, as I didn't finish the first game properly (I got to the last level, honest). Actually, I don't even own the first game, or this sequel "Ratchet & Clank 2 - Locked and Loaded" either. They belong to my older brother, who has an awful tendency to buy games that he forgets ... more

Advantages Advantages Huge fun, suitable for everyone, good quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rushed, very similar to number 1

Ratchet and Clank was, without a doubt, my favourite game of all time. The standard of animation, ease of game play and sheer sense of fun left the competition standing for many gaming months. There are, however, only a certain number of times that you can play even the best of games before they start to wear thin. But Insomniac Games were quick to realise the need to satisfy “Ratchet Thirst” and a sequel was delivered in phenomenally quick time. Ratchet 2: Locked and Loaded is a worthy successor to the original game. The makers have retained nearly all the appeal of the first game ... more

Advantages Advantages Gameplay, controls and humour.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No multiplayer.

You play as Ratchet, a friendly lombax character with tonnes of weapons, and a robot on your back you've named Clank. Fresh from their adventure which was stopping Chairman Drek, they embark on a new adventure which is to stop a thief who stole an experimental creature from company giant Mega Corp, and return this mysterious creature that company owner Abercrombie Fizzwidget requests you to get. The main characters in this game are the three I have just mentioned and they are just as loveable as they were in their last adventure-they are the ones who provide the laughs in the game and cut ... more

After being five worlds from completion, I ended up turning it off. Sure it was great to begin with and felt just as good as the first, but as time went on I started to find it boring and irritating. Plot: After saving the world in the previous game, the duo is back but rather bored this time. They’re heroes now but it’s not shaping up to be at all like they thought it would. Anyway after a short intro, Ratchet and Clank are then hired as bounty hunters to track down a cute little blue furry thing called a Protopet. It looks harmless but unfortunately is actually quite deadly. With different ... more
