game for the Nintendo 64. Rayman, who is strangely huge in France, is a strange yellow creature with hands and feet that are magically connected to his body by invisible appendages. This odd character can glide like a helicopter and throw his fists around as well as jump, climb, and swim. As in any decent action jumping game, Rayman meets up with many friends and enemies on his quest. Your mission is to rescue hostages held by the vile Robo-Pirates. The game has an odd cinematic feel to it--perhaps due to its widescreen presentation and cut scenes. A cute feature is the design of the characters, who speak in their own forms of cute gibberish. Graphically, this game is rich with deep dark colours spread out over 50 levels and 20 worlds. Hiding in these levels are coloured "lums" that can be used to open up new worlds or to restore Rayman's energy. These come in handy when you want to breathe underwater for long periods of time. Rayman must also collect magic masks and crystals, among other goodies.--Robb Guido, Amazon.comPros:Vivid 3-D graphicsHuge number of levelsLots of gameplay varietyCons:The Dreamcast version looks even better

can muster in their entire length. This 3-D platformer is designed in the same vein asSuper Mario 64for the Nintendo 64 and theGexseries on the PlayStation. With the notable exception ofSonic Adventure, Dreamcast owners have suffered through a dry spell when it comes to action jumping games on the 128-bit system.Rayman 2was worth the wait. The back of the case describesRayman 2's graphics as "lush," but that may be an understatement. The game's environments and effects are impressive. We were awed by the amount of detail that has been designed into many of the game's environments. Perhaps more amazing is that the game suffers no slowdown despite the high-resolution visuals.Pretty graphics aside,Rayman 2delivers solid gameplay that will suck in both casual and hardcore gamers. The controls are intuitive and special moves are easy to pull off. Rayman has a limited set of moves--basically he can run, jump, and shoot energy balls. Analogue speed control is fully implemented, letting users pounce through a field of butterflies or tiptoe around a sleeping guard. Several puzzles are scattered throughout the game, but they are so ingeniously designed that you'll never feel overwhelmed by their complication. We were hard-pressed to come up with many drawbacks to this game. One slight flaw is the camera angle, which can sometimes interfere with your ability to accurately control the on-screen action. Fortunately, this can usually be amended with a few quick presses of the camera control buttons. Other than that,Rayman 2is as good as it gets in this genre. Better still, Dreamcast owners get a special bonus: this version contains some extra levels you won't find anywhere else. If you have multiple systems, this is the version to get.--T. managed to make the transition to the realms of 3-D. Although offering no great leaps in the gameplaying world, it's nice to see a fun game that satisfies the small child in all of us.The challenge of the game is your standard 3-D platform idea. You play the infamous Rayman, who has been imprisoned by the Robo-Priates who have captured and enslaved your world. Your task, with the help of your friends, is to escape and save the planet through a series of puzzles and levels. The feel of this game is strange, as there are no new elements, and you possess the usual armoury of weapons. The genre isn't new either and at times you can see the combined forces of games such as Crash Bandicoot, Sonic and Mario all at work. ButRayman 2manages to pull off the amazing feat of actually being a great game, and although you've seen it all before you can't help but play on.Everything has a lovely sheen in this game. The graphics are great, and boast details that Disney would be proud of. Everybody from Rayman's best friend Globox to the weird and wonderful Teensies all have their part to play as you go on your journey offering plenty of light comedy moments and you can't help but laugh when they begin to talk in some nonsense language only for Rayman to shout "Yahoo" at the end of everything. We have already seen games like this many times before, but this one has such an appealing gloss that you end up with a game that is better to play and beats its competitors. If you fancy the idea of sitting down to some addictive innocent fun thenRayman 2is perfect for both children and adults alike.--Stuart Miles

gameRayman 2: The Great Escapeshould immediately remind players of classic console games such asSuper Mario 64andCrash Bandicoot. Despite its cartoonish appearance,Rayman 2isn't simply a child's game; its addictive, "just one more level" gameplay should please fans of all ages.Players assume control ofRayman, a seemingly magical creature, complete with head, body, hands and feet but lacking all the connecting parts in between. Over the course of 40 levels, Rayman searches for four masks to help conquer the nefarious Admiral Razorbeard, who is currently in control of Rayman's peaceful world. One ofRayman 2's most endearing qualities is the number of unique (and extremely humorous) characters you meet during the adventure; Rayman 2 crafts an engaging story around its well designed game play and gorgeous 3-D graphics engine.Game play consists of traversing dozens of diverse locations, including swamps, temples, pirate ships and grasslands. Along the way, Rayman collects brightly coloured "Lums" that can restore health, replenish air supply (when underwater), provide access to secret areas, and save the game position (like most console games,Rayman 2only lets you save at certain points). The dynamic levels consist of standard running, jumping and climbing sections, but also include spectacularly animated action sequences such as water skiing, rafting, and flying.Rayman 2: The Great Escapeis an enthralling adventure with surprises around each corner; it's certainly one of the best platform games for all ages in recent memory. --Doug Radcliffe

What is different to the first Rayman game is that in this one because he is three dimensional you can now move the camera around to get better views or aim. His powers that he gains as the game goes on are basically the same as the first, but some of the levels are faster. Each level is very different so keeps the gameplay interesting. i have thoroughly enjoyed playing the game and didnt take long to get addicted to it.

Having had Rayman for the Playastation when Rayman 2 came out I was a bit dubious as the first Rayman was just a basic platform game. I then saw the game being played in PC world and had to buy it, I've been hooked since. The graphics and gameplay are very much improved on the first Rayman. The quality is virtually cartoon quality with you going from level to level to obtain the masks. As you go along you have to release Raymans friends who help ...

Rayman 2 is one of the best platformers I have ever played on the dreamcast, it is alot better than its other platformer, sonic. I think that it really does beat sonic in every way. It has much better graphics, sounds, game play, length and is a lot harder game to complete. The aim of the game is to go through various levels rescuing the lums, little fire fly type animals. There are 1000 and 1 of these little animals to find over the many levels. ...

Advantages: great fun for all the family, nice tidy graphics, and a big improvement on Rayman Disadvantages: not long enough, Can't get the kids off the Plastation to play it myself.
with items like bombs, rolling barrels and lifts to complete some of your challenges.
Pre-release problems seem to have been ironed out. Graphically it looks great for the PlayStation, although it will be fantastic to see what old Rayman looks like on the PlayStation2. The sound and voice-overs are entertaining and the soundtrack really captures the action and feel of the game. The colours and characters in the game should be a hit with gamers of all ages, the sense of humour is universal and reminiscent of the kind used in some of the family orientated cartoons that have been released over the last few years.
Rayman is a living legend and if you haven't played with him by now - don't you think you should? If you're a platform loving gamer there is no way that you should miss out on an adventure with Rayman and his mates! With this kind ...

I bought this game for my wife as a birthday present as she had been playingRayman 1 on the PC for some time and I wanted my computer back!
What you get for your money is a great little 3D platform/adventure game that is safe for all the family. Indeed, my 2 kids (ages 6 and 3) loved this game too, and made it impossible for me to get anywhere near the playstation.
This time Rayman needs to take on Pirates who have taken his friends and people captive. They have also got all the energy and split it into 'Lums' which they scattered all round Rayman's world.
Our hero must search all the levels, collect all the Lums and rescue all his friends to beat the Pirates. The game has been designed with a sense of humour that is reminiscent of the kind used in some of the family orientated cartoons.

This was the first game my daughter had for Christmas, and she loves it!
we haven't played on Rayman, but we were recommended RaymanII for a child who was new to the playstation.
The graphics are brilliant and the story line amused my daughter for ages. After each chapter, Rayman told her a bit more fo the story and she listened to it and followed the instructions.
It is comical and very child friendly, with easy controls and nothing to complicated for her to work out for herself.
On the whole a good game to get them used to playing and looking for prizes and points. ...
Longer than the average action/adventure with twenty big mission, great level-design, clever scenarios and mission objectives, fine controls, lots of unlockable extras
