Tasty but not too filling
Advantages: Good consistency, easy to make, no stirring needed during cooking, tasty Disadvantages: Not too filling, a bit pricey
I have recently lost a couple of stone and while I'm about the size I want to be, obviously I don't want to undo my hard work and as such am continuing to watch what I eat. When I was dieting, I discovered Weight Watchers' wide range of microwave meals, and have to say I'm fairly impressed. This risotto has to be my favourite.
Risotto is not the easiest dish to make, what with all the stirring and such, so it's nice to see microwave varieties cropping ... ...frozen in 7 1/2 minutes, and after a little stirring is the perfect consistency.
I'm generally somewhat cautious about microwave meals in general, especially those containing meat, but the chicken pieces in this, of which there are plenty, are tender and tasty. The sauce is creamy and tasty, the rice cooks without hardening into a clump (this doesn't require any stirring mid-cooking) and there are a few plump peas thrown in for good measure.
And ...

Healthy Ready Meals
Advantages: Wide variety, healthy, reasonably priced Disadvantages: Poor Cottage Pie
...local supermarkets had to offer. Waitrose was the nearest one that had the grapefruit I was looking for, so I sought out their range of 'perfectly balanced' chilled meals while I was there. This particular range is easily recognisable by the two-tone green background of the cardboard sleeve packaging. In the top right-hand corner, the percentage of fat and the number of calories per serving are clearly indicated. Some of the meals I have tried contain ... ...always found chicken in any Waitrose dish to be very tender, and this was no exception. I would go so far as to say that I enjoyed it more than any other korma I have had, as I sometimes find korma too bland or sweet. This one had just enough of a spicy bite to it for me but was still what you would term mild. The pilau rice had an excellent flavour, thanks to the cardamom seed, whole clove and cinnamon bark that I picked out before serving. (The ...

Hey Gringo - you gotta try dis
Advantages: Easy to make, very tasty, better spice mix than others, cheap and GFM Disadvantages: Tortillas are a bit small and not as tasty as other types
...dish.
Whilst in Tesco found their own brand fajita kit on special offer for £1.50, nearly half the cost of an Old El Paso kit so I thought I’d give it a try.
What’s excluded?
The box does not contain the meat, peppers, onion, sour cream, guacamole or cheese. This applies to all fajita kits though.
Considering the ‘filling’ is not included fajitas end up being quite a costly meal.
What do I do with it then?
Making fajitas is simple and ... ...noted that one of the Tesco fajitas is very small (the tortillas are much smaller than the Old El Paso version) and you are likely to eat more. My other half does not have a very big appetite and she can manage 3.
There is an allergy advice in that the product includes wheat, gluten and mustard.
How much does it cost?
The normal price of the Tesco fajita kit is £1.67, although they are often on special offer where they can be had for as little ...

John West - You Know What I Like !!!
Advantages: Tasty, No preparation needed, Low fat Disadvantages: Bit pricey, Not so filling on it's own.
...stumbled across something called a John West Tuna Light Lunch and being a huge Tuna fan thought I would give it a go. I'll admit the advertisement on the front stating it had no more than 250 cals was a big encouragement.
What is in it?
The main ingredient is obviously Tuna, but also included are potato, mixed beans and peppers in a tomato and garlic dressing. For those of you interested I'll include a full list of ingredients:
Tuna (32%)
Potatoes ... ...on it. The brand name John West is boldly stated in white at the top with the usual logo background of a blue and green tidal wave. The product name Tuna light lunch is then shown below in bold green lettering on a white background to stand out. Then to the left is a bright colourful picture of what the meal should look like and to the right is a description of what is included.
At the bottom in blue and white writing to separate it from the rest ...
