After use I have found that you should rinse the motor unit UPSIDE DOWN under the tap to get any residue milk off and then dry UPSIDE DOWN. The unit comes ready to use and takes two AA batteries. It comprises of a sealed base unit which houses the motor, the jug for the milk and a lid. The base unit has a whisk attached which fits through a hole in the jug and twists to secure the two together. You do have to ensure that they are fixed together properly by twisting the jug on to the base unit until it stops. It is not fiddly and is easy to assemble in a few seconds.
Approximately half a jug of milk makes an average beaker-size milkshake. You put the milk in the jug first and then add the flavour you require. You can use powder or liquid flavourings - either work well. Once you have put the lid on there is a button on the side of the machine which, when pressed, sets the whisk off. After approximately 30 - 40 seconds you have a nice frothy shake, ready to drink.

If you don't water can get into the unit via the whisk and cause it to seize up. This has happened once to me but I found by gently turning the whisk a few times it worked again. The instruction leaflet tells you not to get the motor wet but doesn't tell you how to clean it!
This is a great milkshake maker for children to use. It is easy for them to pour the milk in - the jug is wide enough for them not to spill any milk. The whisk is made of strong plastic, shaped like a teddy head which looks nice and can't cut little hands should they try to touch it. The jug has a fruit pattern on the side of it and the base unit and lid have the Ready Steady Cook logos on. The whole thing is small enough to store easily and robust enough for children to use. The batteries last a good amount of time as well. It encourages my 4 year old to drink milk and we only use one tsp of flavour powder (instead of the recommended 3!) to flavour the milk so she doesn't have too much sugar. It has long-lasting novelty value for children which I think makes it good value for money. The shakes come out frothy and well mixed with none of the floaty bits which you tend to get if you make them by hand in a cup. It is easy enough to use that you don't mind getting it out everytime they want to make a shake. It is easy to clean and doesn't make any mess. It really is just as quick as making it yourself in a cup because it's so simple to put together. Once I've cleaned it after use I tend to store it already put together ready for the next use. This is a good value toy which will last for a long time and be well-used.
