A very nice magazine and a great project for children or big kids, You can get hold of it at most ... more
This magazine came at just the right time for me, I was just about to try and whack something together from 2 wheelchair motors an old bed frame and 6 rolls of parcel tape... This is a lot easier.
The magazine is published every two weeks and comes with a packet of robot components stuck to the front, I am currently waiting for part 11 to come out, it's due any day now and I can't wait to see what comes with it this week. So far, My robot can move around and even follow or hide from bright light. In last weeks issue I got a buzzer and some more parts for the chasis and it's really starting to look quite cool.
The robot is really easy to put together and I have had no problems at all, although I am a highly skilled adult ;) I would say that children under 12 may need help with it but I am sure the parents would pretend that they didn't want to help but love it really. All of the parts are precision made and you can't help but admire the quality of the workmanship of all the seperate pieces.
The magazine is priced at £3.99 which is quite good vaule considering that you get circuit boards, motors or buzzers etc with every issue but I have to say the magazine is more of a leaflet and only weighs in around 18 or so pages but it does have the instructions for putting the current weeks parts onto the robot and a few interesting articles which is all you need really I suppose, It is all in full colour and is nice and glossy.
I can't wait to see what the thing can do when it is finally finished. A very nice magazine and a great project for children or big kids, You can get hold of it at most newsagents or supermarkets, My local Tesco's has it but I would suggest trying to reserve it as I am having real trouble getting hold of it and my local Martin's newsagent only sells it to customers who have ordered it now :(
Advantages: A fantastic end product Disadvantages: Delays, uncertainty, actual magazine is very short
...since I started collecting the Real Robots magazine and like many other people I subscribed straight away. The experience I’ve had has been ‘Interesting’.
The magazine is published every fortnight but subscribers get two issues every four weeks to save on postage. Myself, like most collectors get the magazine for the parts to Cybot and not for the magazine itself. I used to read though it but now I don’t bother, usually I just read the first couple ... ...you’ve got in that issue. The magazine is well laid out, colourful and generally of a good quality, but the actual content isn’t so good. Each issue is split into five sections named: “Cybot: Step by Step”; “Robots in action”; “Robostars”; “Workshop”; “Cyber science” and “Network”. Each selection is described below.
Cybot: Step by Step
This first selection explains the parts that came with that issue and gives instructions on how to fit these parts.

Advantages: Interesting challenge Disadvantages: A bit fiddly
...that launched this new magazine, Real Robots. This magazine provides the parts and step by step instructions to build an intelligent robot called a cybot. I thought that we would try the first issue which was offered at a discounted price to see how we got on. Although we had never done anything like this before it felt like a worthwhile challenge and provide something that we could do together.
Everything was fine until we realised that we would ... ...parts together, I think that one should have been included and some people may not have gone any further with their robot construction. The second edition came out a fortnight later at the full price of £3.99 containing more parts including motors and gearbox housings. I should also say that the second part also included a video that told you more about these robots. Apparently Cybot should be able to move by week 4.
Cybot has many more features ...

Advantages: The Robot Disadvantages: The problem of if u dont get a issue
ok, i collected the real robots magazine since the start, but when i went on holiday, i missed one of the mags! so i thought:
'i heard that you can order them off the internet and by phone'
so my Grandma paid by credit card over the net. I also need some Binders to hold my magazine as i was running out of space so we ordered them too.
2 months later and still nothing! My Gran rang up the help-line,
"O.....erm... i'll re-order them and you shoud ... ...Bye" Said a tired voice on the phone (GREAT CUSTOMER CARE HEY?)
so we waited..and waited.... and gave up....another month and still nothing. So of course carrying on my collection i had anoth 5 or 6 parts and magazine which were totally useless!
I rang up this time andagain 7 to 14 working days! That phone call was about 9 working days ago so..... you never know another phone call might be needed, and if so, it wont be said in the kindest of ways! ...
