Denon is music and movies to your ears!
Advantages: quality, amazing sound, good looks, value for money Disadvantages: no HDMI input (but thats changed on newer models)
...this price point, this particular Denon AVR has gone from 1900 to 1910 (as the current model) thus the model before the 1907 was the 1906 and the one after was the 1908, well, you get the idea. Which each release the general product is improved. There are models both up and down, with Denon’s flagship Audio-Visual Receiver the AVR-4810 leading the way with 9.1 channels and more inputs than you can shake a stick at. Of course, the price reflects the ... ...speakers and a shiny new Denon upscaling dvd player, I opted for this AVR. At the time it cost me £350, though it seems prices have risen a little since. No surprise really as you now get HDMI input and output in the newer models including DTS HD and True Dolby Digital HD. My 1907 is lacking in this area, which I’m quite sad about now, as I’ve recently upgraded to a PS3 and full HD TV. If I had the money, I would buy the 1910. That’s not to say I’m ...

Denon AVR 1706
Advantages: Good quality, Good number of inputs Disadvantages: Complicated Menu's, Instructions
Well this is an AMP I would recommend. I recently purchased this from Richer Sounds (cheapest place) to try and make life easier between all my electronics, and I am certainly happy with the result.
I was attracted to this as it has 2 Coaxial inputs, 4 video and 7 audio inputs, where allot of the models I was looking at in the more budget end of the scale, were very limited. The AVR 1706 also has had good reviews in audio mag's and websites, which ... ...as there is added sockets to have an extra two front speakers for added power (total of 9 speakers). It covers Dolby Pro Logic 2, DTS etc, but the only one it is a bit hesitant with is Lucas Arts audio signals - They still work just as-well but when changing chapters on a DVD with this format, it takes a split second or two for the sound to kick in.
Set up is very straight forward, plug in the wall, red to red, black to black. Everything port/socket ...

Denon sound systems are among the best
Advantages: Lots of inputs. HDMI support. Good controls. Auto-switching for Dolby 5.1 Disadvantages: Menus are sometimes fiddly. No menu on TV, only on small screen.
I can't fault the Denon brand for home theatre systems. There are a lot of cheap 5.1 systems nowadays that are very tempting, but if you want a true hair-raising experience, it's nice to go for something with substance - an amplifier like this one. We've used ours to replace our ageing hi-fi alongside a Denon DVD player and a Bush turntable. The sound is so fantastic that we have never gone back to using the TV's inbuilt speakers. Most of the time, ... ...room. When we watch programmes with Dolby 5.1, it switches automatically. How could you have HD and not surround sound? The subtle sounds are reproduced very accurately and explosions etc are very good in proportion. The bass speaker, for example, shakes the floor like an earthquake in film scenes of high intensity. Going back to TV speakers after experiencing a sound system like this is tinny and unbearable. ...

From the moment you plug in this receiver you'll be amazed. You plug it into your TV and you can lay out your speaker set up on screen, balance the levels, direct the bass to the Sub etc.

As EX and ... ...good enough for most homes and this amp is the business.
Available in black and champagne finish.
Disadvantages

The remote is a little cluttered and difficult to use in the dark. Some buttons do glow and it is a learning remote but I think it could be improved.
NB: This amp has been discontinued and replace by the almost identical AVR-2801. ...

Still a great performer .......
Advantages: Fantastic build quality, bullet proof. Disadvantages: Big, bright, gold. No DAB.
Although now a little old in the tooth, the 3802 still makes a sound buy for either DVD or CD playback, even if it's radio capabilities are limited - ie just analogue. You can probably pick one up at a steal on ebay, and it's well worth considering.
From the home cinema point of view, it will accept Dolby Pro-Logic2, Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, DTS-ES/Neo6.0. It will even emulate 7.1 with a 5.1 channel souce. It has also a built in 7.1 system, to ... ...THX, although it is not THX certified.
For music surround sound, it will even allow the connection of a differently positioned set of speakers to optimise music playback, although I can't imagine that many people will have used this faclitity.
It allows several different options for component video switching - as well as composite video and "S" video, there are 2 sets of component video (Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr).
So, whatever combination of other equipment ...
