Bush RPA1 - A useful product with some drawbacks
Advantages: Compact, cheap, radio performance satisfactory, has a record turntable Disadvantages: Performance through own speakers fair only, turntable performance (see text)
I bought one of these (two actually-one was a present) in a sale about two years ago. I paid under GBP 10 per set, which was remarkable. Normal retail price appears to be in the GBP 35-45 range.
The unit comprises a range of features that wouldn't have been hard to find a generation or so ago, but which are rare now. What we have here is what used to be called a radiogram - a combination of radio and record player with built - in speakers. It's ... ...illustration, but the turntable is 17cm, with the entire unit being 30cm wide. The radio part includes an analogue tuner with medium wave and stereo FM (there's no LW), There is a facility for switching off the stereo decoder in case of poor reception, and a red LED indicator to aid tuning. The tuning scale has an illuminted yellow LED cursor. The FM aerial is of the wire type and gives satisfactory reception and performance - maybe on the level ...

charming piece of equipment
Advantages: incredible sound, low price, CD direct, phono ports, multi-zone Disadvantages: none so far
Call me old-school. But when it comes to sound, I may have hit the jackpot.
About 2 years ago, I decided to upgrade from my old and faithful Technics amplifier to a 21st century piece of equipment. I know, two years is a long way, but there is a story.
I started to do my piece of research, and within my budget (700$ tops), I wanted to go for a 5.1 or more surround receiver. I started with Sony, Pioneer, JVC, then moved forward to Denon, Harman ... ...just couldn't scratch that itch, you know.
Then, HD being already in the world 2 years back, I said that I'd better wait for a HDMI compatible receiver. I started researching again, and I realized that multi-channel amplifiers won't do it for me. My ears need a crisper, warmer sound than these otherwise very capable components can produce.
So, I ended my journey at the RX 797. Boy, am I glad I did.
I got it last week via courier. I eventually ...

Very Very impressive
Advantages: Sound quality, features, dab Disadvantages: Price
...the plunge an dbought the onkyo speakers with it.
Its incredibly handsome. Bullet proof build quality and a nice display make this look th part. The remote is functional but kind of bland. It is incredibly easy to set up and has numerous amounts of inputs so it will just about connect to anyhting (connected to my computer as we speak).
The sound quality is phenomenal. When my friends have parties they all borrow because it sounds amazing. Full ... ...speakers i could not beleive the amount of bass. The DAB is fantastic as well as having fm as back up. Numerous alarm features, timers and mute button on the remote show this is a well thought out product. Incredibly easy to use and intuitive.
Now, whether to buy it. In the price range (£300 with speakers) there is alot of options especially the denon and yamaha. There is not much to tell them apart in my view. The one thing in this ones favour ...

Fantastic
Advantages: All the home cinema features - future proof Disadvantages: Heavy & large.
...new to end product from Harman Kardan. It is available in the US at the moment - however can be imported easily by purchasing on the Web. It retails at $1600, however $1000 is nearer the mark if you buy from a good dealer. EBAY is one place to look. The unit is solidly constructed, weighs in at 50 pounds weight - mainly due to the very high-ens torroidial power transformers. I upgraded from a NAD 3020 amp to a HK AVR40 and when I heard the AVR7000 ...

Denon is music and movies to your ears!
Advantages: quality, amazing sound, good looks, value for money Disadvantages: no HDMI input (but thats changed on newer models)
...this price point, this particular Denon AVR has gone from 1900 to 1910 (as the current model) thus the model before the 1907 was the 1906 and the one after was the 1908, well, you get the idea. Which each release the general product is improved. There are models both up and down, with Denon’s flagship Audio-Visual Receiver the AVR-4810 leading the way with 9.1 channels and more inputs than you can shake a stick at. Of course, the price reflects the ... ...speakers and a shiny new Denon upscaling dvd player, I opted for this AVR. At the time it cost me £350, though it seems prices have risen a little since. No surprise really as you now get HDMI input and output in the newer models including DTS HD and True Dolby Digital HD. My 1907 is lacking in this area, which I’m quite sad about now, as I’ve recently upgraded to a PS3 and full HD TV. If I had the money, I would buy the 1910. That’s not to say I’m ...
