Pioneer SC-LX81 is a powerful feature packed A/V amp

Advantages: Power, media streaming, iPod connection, auto-calibration
Disadvantages: Slow using remote to navigate GUI, VERY basic GUI

I was deciding between this and the sister LX71, after spending £1800 on speakers I didn't want to let the system down. The list of credits on this A/V amp was amazing; THX Ultra 2 Plus certification, auto-calibration, dlna audio/video streaming playback and 190W/channel from B&O ICEpower amps to mention but a few. A reasonably powerful amplifier/receiver that does a very job from producing dazzling video and audio. You can connect this amplifier/receiver to your TV from the monitor out composite socket or from the s-video monitor out if you have an s-video compatible TV, check and makesure your TV is s-video compatible and once you have connected composite or s-video to your TV you can then connect game consoles / dvd player to the amp/receiver so you can ...

Wonderful sound

Advantages: hdmi switching
Disadvantages: not hdmi UP switching

Having owned a marantz home cinema amp for a number of years i thought it was time to up grade. For the money (£380) this seems to be one for the best on the market, it has THX sound and DD7.1 DTS etc. It was easy to set up and includes a nice little feature where you put the little mic that comes with it on the place where you sit, it will then set up your speaker levels so the sound is at its best. Pounding sound of Pioneer!!!

Advantages: Excellent sound quality, easy to set up, reliable product, great value
Disadvantages: Overload on volume(but only at extreme levels) unrealistic to the daily user.

Superb surrond sound system. Ive had a sony surrond system for around 5 years, then I got this system and I was utterly stunned at the difference, the quality in sound is second to none!! There is so much to talk about on this system, that I will kick it off with the sound quality, actually unbelievable! Review of Pioneer VSX-916

Well equipped receiver with great sound & price!

Advantages: Lots of power, great sound, and superb functionality/connectivity
Disadvantages: USB interface quite limited, learning remote struggles with some remotes

...Sony I settled on the Pioneer on the advice of a friend in the trade, bought one and am very pleased with it. It also solved the sync problem easily. The amp is a doddle to set up, using its MCACC automated setup sequence which works via a supplied microphone, placed in the normal listening position. This proved very effective with the amp measuring the distance from each speaker very accurately, and checking for sonic nasties like standing waves, ...
...this amp is that it is THX rated and I am certainly pleased with the dynamics this produces when watching a good film. The amp has plenty of 'va va voom' although obviously this depends on your speaker/sub setup. The power rating is actually 150DIN watts per channel although I am not sure how this compares to RMS figures.
