Advantages: Alive and Kicking.
Disadvantages: Collaboration with Transworld.

Established: 1982 by Tim Waterstone 288 stores Currently owned by a Russian billionaire called Alexander Mamut Now the fees of keeping a community library open is far too much in the current financial climate – the focus for me is to use the ... Read review

Had to smile at your opening paragraph Shaun, you have the staff spot on! Must be all trained from the same area so the're all alike no matter which Waterstones they end up in! :~D Not sure a ‘scratch n sniff’ app' would work, or would i want it too; i look dodgy enough without standing in the middle of the street sniffing my Kindle! :~) 'I want the best of both worlds' too Shaun, and i applaud your enthusiasm for the wonderful world that can only really be harnessed in a great book store. I love Waterstones. Don't know if you've ever watched 'Frasier', but its a superbly written comedy series in which many scenes take place in a coffee shop that has a small area where there are a couple of chairs and a couple of bookcases that look like they're filled with classic well leafed through books, ahh the ambience. I have spent many an hour in our local Waterstones reading through material in their comfy box chairs supping coffee while my son leafs through very expensive books as if they were gem stones, perhaps that's how we should all view the printed page eh! Superb review xXx by Deesrev
Im not a fan of Waterstones in general, or any other book shop that has a coffee outlet built in. Don't get me wrong, as an avid coffee fan and ex-barista of many years, I'm all for coffee shops. But the noise generated is far more intrusive when browsing for books in a store that should effectively offer the same kind of spiritual release that libraries evoke. I adore books as opposed to going down the E-route though. by Nar2

Waterstone's
Review of Waterstones Book Shops by m_illie13

Advantages: Excellent range, polite useful staff, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: None

I am a reading addict and its rare to catch me anywhere without a book in my hand or at least in my bag. I go through books daily and my bookcase is undoubtedly cramped and overpacked. As well as this I have piles of books I'm forced to stash away at the ... Read review

Real books from a real shop!
Review of Waterstones Book Shops by Maths80

Advantages: Nice staff, good selection
Disadvantages: not cheap

Given that I recently reviewed waterstones.co.uk, I figured it was only fair to look at their actual high street stores as well, since I always try to support shops I like using. Waterstone’s isn’t really one of those 'small companies' as its owned by ... Read review

So sorry for the low rating but this review is lacking detail, and it is so full of mistakes. by Violet1278
Sorry but I have no idea what they sell and your review makes it no clearer. What you have written here could do with a good edit as it's full of typos - "strate" when it should be "straight" and so on by Bollinger28

I Can't Work It Out (The Works)
Review of The Works by vialdana

Advantages: If you find something worth having then this place works out nice and cheap
Disadvantages: It's hard to work your way around here, and to work out if the trip was worthwhile.

The Works is one of those shops that really doesn't seem to quite know what it wants to be. If you stand outside and look in, chances are what you'll see is loads of books, a fair few people and a lot of mess! I suppose most people would classify it as a ... Read review

I've noticed they seem to have a wider range of 'pop' CDs these days, though I think they're either returns or second hand (reconditioned). Personally, it's the art and craft stuff I tend to go for these days. by a-true-ben

WHSmith: your first-stop for books.
Review of WHSmith High Street (Shop) by fujisuke

Advantages: wide selection, huge range, organised, nice staff
Disadvantages: chance of asking if you want to pre-order an item at till-point
