An Alluring, Sadistic Read
Review of Kill You Twice - Chelsea Cain by gothic_moon

Advantages: Intriguing characters, well-written, gripping, keeps you guessing
Disadvantages: None for me

I came across this in the library and was intrigued by the blurb. I wasn’t sure whether I’d read any of her other novels previously (I don’t believe I have) so I didn’t know what to expect. I had hopped for an engaging, gripping crime thriller; thankfully ... Read review

Excellent review of what sounds to be a thoroughly tragic book. I agree with your perceptions and feelings of such a situation, precisely why I couldn't go in the direct 'caring' and 'service' professions like nursing or law because I'd feel for everybody 'too much' since the protocol is to be emotionally detached and the rage aspect I can well imagine being constant. Good points on how many would easily blame the mother/victim(s) instead of the victimizer usually because they're a target anyway and an easy one and closer to reach, I still see a lot of that in numerous sections of society, particualy in Asian-Mediteranean neighbourhoods who hypocritically enough have a lot of arrange marriage yet still blame the girl/woman. It sounds like she was offering herself up for sex after the violence to placate him as well as the prostition and I'd think of that as the meagre safety blanket she thought she could give to the children but she couldn't save herself let alone them all as a group, just too much to do by herself and whilst living in terror which cuts off the options if any e.g. dependency on the abuser after having been in the situation so long being cut off from any other reality or types of person (being a prostitute she'd barely come across anybody who cared if was forced into it and would expect whatever they consider their 'money's worth' either way). I say 'if any' since you also so aptly mention the social services failing, seen that time and time again, especially in foster care where the 'carers' get paid a lot barely give anything to the children and 'strangely' enough when/if the kids get moved on again they have less belongings then they started off with. B*stards everywhere. by ladyofflame
