Review of John Le Carre: The Biography - Adam Sisman by 2mennycds

Advantages: Thorough, detailed, interesting in places
Disadvantages: Lengthy, too much detail, spoilers about his novels

...only read four books by John le Carre, but I enjoyed three of them enough, and the television dramatisations of “Tinker, Tailor” and “Smiley’s People” to want to buy and read the biography of the enigmatic author. I was bought this as a present an ... Read review

Review of Rich Dad Poor Dad - Robert T. Kiyosaki by l0renzzo

Advantages: Easy to read, simple language
Disadvantages: Didn't find something

I read this book first time 2 years ago at the recommendation of my mother. It captivated me at once. It is really easy to read, and once you start it, you will immediately finnish it, because it is very attractive and interesting. It's one of those 'must ... Read review

Four Essays at a Bargain Price
Review of On Liberty and Other Essays - John Stuart Mill by a-true-ben

Advantages: A cheap edition containing Mill's best known work
Disadvantages: This edition has now been replaced; I'd only go for this version if it was cheap

This volume contains what are undoubtedly Mill’s two best-known and most-studied works, along with two other pieces of his political philosophy. The essays herein are not the most definitive statements of Mill’s views, but represent his attempts to write ... Read review

Short and Sweet
Review of Political Philosophy - David Miller by a-true-ben

Advantages: A handy - and very brief - introduction to the field of political philosophy/theory
Disadvantages: It is only short, so it doesn't go into much detail

I used quite a few Very Short Introductions during my undergraduate degree and often found them helpful starters when studying a new topic, author, etc. I believe this one didn’t come out until the end of my degree, because I believe it was summer 2003 th ... Read review

For the Greatest Happiness
Review of Utilitarianism (Oxford Philosophical Texts) - J. S. Mill by a-true-ben

Advantages: A philosophical classic, very handy notes
Disadvantages: Too often mangled by 1st year undergraduates!

Mill’s Utilitarianism is a staple of many undergraduate philosophy degrees. Indeed, I first read it in my first term at university (all the way back in autumn 2000). I suspect many have had similar experiences. It’s a shame, in a way, that this work – lik ... Read review

The End Of The Road For Kerouac...
Review of Satori In Paris - Jack Kerouac by justarube

Advantages: Kerouac has great spiritual vision.
Disadvantages: The point of 'Satori' seems to get lost in the telling of the story.

***About My Review*** I'm reviewing my copy of Jack Kerouac's 'Satori In Paris'. The novella is often published alongside another Kerouac novella called 'Pic' and I have a Grove Press publication which features both stories. I should point out that ... Read review

Advantages: Engaging premise, atmospheric, great characters, intelligently written
Disadvantages: None per se for me
