I agree with much what you've stated - I can't help but feel you could've explored the subject better - not sure what you mean by the comment: "The print always seems far better in quality of writing." by 1st2thebar

Terrifying, just terrifying!
Review of Member Advice on Febrile Convulsions by chrisandmark_is_here

Advantages: It doesn't take very long at all for the baby/toddler/child to snap out of it
Disadvantages: Very frightening to witness, can potentially last a long time, takes years for them to outgrow it

Last night was awful. My two year old son went to bed at 8pm as usual, a little snotty and generally a bit warm due to a cold he came down with on Boxing Day. He's not the best sleeper in the world at the best of times so when he woke every hour I didn't ... Read review

ps. Have you thought of suggesting Syria as a topic for Current Debate? by torr
Welcome back. I too am a fan of - and frequent writer in - the Cafe, but I think it is a mistake to neglect the more bread-and-butter product side of the site, which is its main raison-d'etre. As to the approach of members to the site, I think we have to recognise that every member has his/her own motives for being here, and has a right to review what they want to review in whatever way they want to review it. You can always choose to down-rate (or ignore entirely) their output if you don't think it's up to much. by torr

Advantages: short term gain.....
Disadvantages: .....with a considerable amount of long term pain.

I've read a lot in the last few weeks about the legacy of Margaret Thatcher, both good and bad, and for a time I did waver a little on which side to fall. I grew up under Thatcher, I was 10 when she took power, and 21 when she was ousted (by those same co ... Read review

Review of Thatcher's premiership: Good or bad for Britain? by torr

Advantages: Some of the substance

Speaking as someone who always loathed her and never voted for her party, I believe Margaret Thatcher’s premiership was, on balance, good rather than bad for Britain. But what a difficult balance it is to strike, with heavy weights on both sides of the ... Read review

This made for interesting reading, as an 11 year old when she came into power, I recall the Maggie Thatcher Milk Snatcher posters around the school but as an adult I grew to respect her for the changes she made to the union "culture" across the UK. by anonymili

Disadvantages: Didn't add enough due to word limit.

You make your points well - I wouldn't know where to begin on a review like this ;) Not my comfort zone ;) by dawnymarie
May I add that Thatcher closed less mines simply because there were less left to close. The difference was; Thatcher did it in spite as Wilson did it because they were non-profitable. No the Tories call the Bedroom Tax something entirely different - but is comes down to the same thing: which ultimately means the threat of evictions and homelessness, a searing condemnation of 21st century capitalism. by 1st2thebar

Thatcher's Premiership - A very patchy legacy
Review of Thatcher's premiership: Good or bad for Britain? by cr01

Advantages: Stong on reshaping our industry
Disadvantages: Harked too much on past glories and to her own gain.

Some excellent points. by catsholiday
I respected her moral stance and hard-working philosophies . . . but . . . she closed down excellent London Teaching Hospitals for no other reason than that she thought they were too successful; she tried to push the expertise into the other districts and parts of the UK, thus possibly contributing to the state of the NHS with money being more important than care . . . then, at one point, certain benefits for low-paid workers were changed within the time period of validity of entitlement --- no longer being available once new forms were printed, as the 'tick-box' vanished on the form . . . she was self-serving . . . but so are many of our politicians now . . . I think there was too great an emphasis on privatisation for the sake of it, and a lack of compassion for those who were on the margins . . . and that was a bad thing for Britain . . . ♥ ~ Jesi by jesi

Why education should not be synonymous with child care
Review of Do schools in the UK have too many holidays? by brokenangelkisses

Advantages: Regular breaks allow teachers and students time to rest, recuperate and develop
Disadvantages: Long summer breaks do create a 'dip' in learning which needs to be managed

Teachers are contracted to teach for 195 days each year and expected to complete another 5 training days. That leaves 165 days when students are "on holiday" or, to put it another way, at home with their parents. Is that too many? In my opinion, no. Let' ... Read review
