I believe that is just where we differ. Yes, my time was unsuccessful but I am not suggesting that this will be the same for everyone - it is an opinion after all; that I still stand by. and I honestly believe you have it mixed up, there is not "a wide variety of students from different backgrounds", just a single variety with different voices. Also if you haven't encountered snobbiness, it is because you either are one or have been looking at the floor. I went back this weekend to see some friends, I am not an entirely bitter person, I just feel Durham is a soul-less place. by DrJBox

Actually, self catering is an option at various colleges, such as st. cuths, josephine baker. But it is more fun to eat with friends and faculty at the dining halls, which are very nicely catered and there is a concerted university wide program to make the food even better. It's true that there is high sport participation rate at durham, but that's mainly because the college system makes it so easy to take part and have fun even if you are not sporty...I haven't encountered snobbiness but there are indeed some boarding school types in the mix, they tend to be quite jovial friendly types though and there is a wide variety of students from different backgrounds. it's ony a problem if you have a chip on your shoulder and prefer to hang out only with people of one type. by kafka1

Many many years ago I signed on. I left one job after extreme sexual harrassment (I was only 17 and didn't know how to handle it), and the J.C. interviewer when told that, had the cheek to say "Don't you think it wise in this economic climate to just stay there and put up with it?".
