Three Amazing Things About You
Review of Three Amazing Things About You - Jill Mansell by jules.34

Advantages: A great read with thought provoking ideas.
Disadvantages: None

I have read every other Jill Mansell book so when I saw this one listed on the catalogue of my local library, I knew I had to order it. As with her other books, I knew this one wouldn't let me down. At the heart of Jill Mansell books are relationships, ... Read review

Make room for Room
Review of Room - Emma Donoghue by frankiecesca

Advantages: Great overall writing and characters that have been well developed
Disadvantages: Some may find it too emotional

I have never read anything by Emma Donoghue before this and when I bought this, it was quite simply the intriguing one small bit of blurb on the back of the book that did it for me. I knew I already wanted it but, then I spotted an extra bit on the inside ... Read review

A Children's Novel That Is Worth Discovering!
Review of Jackdaw Summer - David Almond by justarube

Advantages: Enjoyable and intelligent.
Disadvantages: Contains realistic horrors which may upset younger readers.

My twelve year old neice gave me this children's book to read after enjoying the novel herself. She passed it on with a hearty recommendation of the writing and a hint that I'd appreciate the setting of the novel - our native North East. I have heard of ... Read review

Advantages: A novel base idea
Disadvantages: Poorly written and executed

Several weeks before my own wedding possibly wasn't the best time to be reading Faith Bleasdale's "Deranged Marriage" for the first time. But my fiancée decided to donate it to a charity shop in preparation for us combining households and I can't bear to ... Read review

Clever and strange, but not as good as the first book.
Review of So Long, and thanks for all the Fish - Douglas Adams by Elna642

Advantages: Clever, well-developed characters, funny, strange
Disadvantages: No real plot, very short, not as good as the rest of the series, no Zaphod?

This is the fourth book in Douglas Adam's infamous The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. As is always the case, the first couple of books are definitely the best, but I always have to read the whole series after I start! So in this book, Arthur De ... Read review

Going For Gold. Missing...
Review of Crusader Gold - David Gibbins by Soho_Black

Advantages: I didn't pay for it!
Disadvantages: Poor writing, characters and plot. Apart from that, it was OK...

If I were a smarter man, or had more self-control, this is a book I would never have read. Having found Gibbins' debut novel "Atlantis" to be little more than a weaker version of a Clive Cussler novel I was in no hurry to read another. But then my wife ... Read review

A Gripping, Shocking and Explicit Investigative Novel
Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson by Elna642

Advantages: Gripping, cleverly written, realistic
Disadvantages: Rather long - 542 pages, hard to keep track of situations and characters, hard to get into

I've finally finished it! Whoop whoop! This is a very different book to what I usually read. It contains a lot of strong language, sexual references, assault and Swedish finance. It also has a lot of investigating, which was my favourite part. A financi ... Read review
