Review of Stick Man - Julia Donaldson by daylehall

Advantages: Great story, my children love it, great illustrations

I am pleased to say that luckily I have passed on my love of books to both my children who luckily adore their bedtime stories. I think its really important to encourage children to read, especially in this day and age when it seems like technology is ta ... Read review

The confessions of Dick Swiveller - A Curious Shop Indeed
Review of The Old Curiosity Shop - Charles Dickens by cr01

Advantages: An interesting read
Disadvantages: Prepare for quite a long haul

When it was the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens birth in 2012, I promised myself that I’d take time out to read all of his novels, given that I’d only ever read a scant couple. Four years on I’ve just completed my first, his 1840-41 written work, The ... Read review

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is a VERY funny book.
Review of The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy - Douglas Adams by cameronamr

Advantages: Incredibly Funny
Disadvantages: Not Suitable for younger children

In my opinion, the best books are the ones that make you laugh. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy made me laugh a lot, and is therefore my favorite book of all time. I think that nowadays, a lot of books essentially have the the same plot. The plot of ... Read review

Welcome to Ciao, this is a really good start! Think about what you’d want to know before making a purchasing decision and write it out for others; a brief plot summary, writing style, characters, themes, etc can all be covered. Why did you love it or hate it. Aim for 500 words as your base minimum word count. Lower than that and you will be scraping H's where the money here is in the VH's and above. A Broken Backwater Town
Review of The Broken Places - Ace Atkins by gothic_moon

Advantages: Vivid sense of atmosphere, interesting moral elements
Disadvantages: Didn't flow too well for me to read, lack of empathy created

I came across this in the library recently when I went to pick up a couple of books to get me through the hospital hump. I was disappointed to find little by my go-to authors (turns out I’ve read a lot from my local library!) so I decided to check out Atk ... Read review

A Trip Down Doctor Who Memory Lane!
Review of Doctor Who: Essential Guide to 50 Years of Doctor Who - Justin Richards by Chippytarka

Advantages: Lots of information included, great pictures, easy to read, represents the TV show well
Disadvantages: Suitable for a fan but not for everyone

I think its quite rare to have something in common with young children. When I say young children, I don't mean just anyone, but I'm thinking about shared likes with my son. He's what I would call a typical boy, always full of energy, has a strange fascin ... Read review

Good plot but lacks character development and the element of time
Review of Poison Study - Maria V. Snyder by Elna642

Advantages: Good plot
Disadvantages: Little character development, irrelevant love story, can't feel time passing

I decided to read this series because this book was voted in for being one of the books of the month in a YA group I’m part of on Goodreads. So the title of this book becomes quite obviously relevant when Yelena, who is destined for the noose, is given t ... Read review

Restless- A gasp out loud spy thriller.
Review of Restless - William Boyd by splishsplash

Advantages: A story line that will keep you up late reading it.
Disadvantages: Some may find the two stories running in tandem a little annoying.

Spy thrillers are not normally my first choice for reading but I was drawn to this one as the cover had "Winner of the Costa Novel Award 2006" on the cover so I knew I would be in for a good read, better than many books that I have picked up from our loc ... Read review

Advantages: great for Discworld fans and cooks everywhere
Disadvantages: If you dont know the Disc you might not be amused
