Slight Sieges
Review of Winter Siege - Ariana Franklin, Samantha Norman by hiker

Advantages: A good page-turning plot
Disadvantages: Could have been stronger on character and the awfulness of events

In the autumn of 1180 the Abbott of Perton Abbey is dying, and like any man who has lived through tumultuous times, particularly one who might have had a close-up view of those times, he decides to set down his own version of events. To this end he calls ... Read review

no one is above suspicion
Review of Above Suspicion - Lynda La Plante by mikeyc123

Advantages: well written
Disadvantages: noe which jump out at me

This was the first Lynda La Plante book I have read and it (quite by chance) is the first book to have Anna Travis as one of the main characters. I read most of it during a 3 hour train journey between my home and my parents over Christmas. My copy of the ... Read review

Wuthering Hogwarts?
Review of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke by steerpyke

Advantages: a wonderful cross genre novel
Disadvantages: a large time commitment required

Trying to describe this mercurial book is a tricky thing to do succinctly, being that it crosses so many generic boundaries and historical styles. Pastiche would be a good starting point. Drawing the flavours of certain nineteenth century writers such as ... Read review

419 Out Of 5
Review of 419 - Will Ferguson by Soho_Black

Advantages: Great story and great writing
Disadvantages: None that I noticed

Will Ferguson seems to have a liking for con games. His 2007 novel, "Hustle" (published as "Spanish Fly" in Canada), followed a pair of 1930 short con grifters and their willing protege. However, in his Giller Prize (Canada's equivalent to the Booker Pr ... Read review

Black Noise is just the beginning
Review of Black Noise - Pekka Hiltunen by hiker

Advantages: Good entertaining read, with a comment or two on modern life to make you think
Disadvantages: None

It was just one of them quirky internet things to begin with. Empty videos appearing on the internet. Dark expanses of time: no images, no sound. They'd been uploaded from hacked accounts: teenagers who didn't know anything about it or about each other ... Read review

2 States - The story of Indian love marriages!
Review of 2 States: The Story Of My Marriage - Chetan Bhagat by niva123

Advantages: Easy to read, reasonable price
Disadvantages: It is basically a simple love story

Anyone interested in a casual modern day fiction will find this interesting. It is written by the famous Indian author Chetan Bhagat who is an exceptional writer and has 7 amazing books to his credit. Like in all of his books, he portrays the life of peop ... Read review

American Gods
Review of American Gods - Neil Gaiman by StewwyB

Advantages: If you take it as a story at face value, it's awesome
Disadvantages: I didn't quite understand the underlying messages about god

Introduction This review is about the tenth anniversary edition which contains an extra 12000 words more than the original. Iíll do my best with this review, but to be honest I found it a difficult book to digest so Iíve had to think long and har ... Read review

A good review, I have read the shorter version, which was hard enough work. I must re-read Pratchett's Small Gods and see what parallels there are... I am told the film and the book Stardust are as alike as chalk and cheese, so I must make the effort to read Stardust the book. by pgn0
