I'm not going to argue with your assessment of City finishing on top, which I think they will be close to, but I think both United and Chelsea have strengthened and City haven't ....Yet. Should be another close season but hopefully not as close as last year !! by supercityfan

I'm not convinced that Chelsea are nailed on for 3rd. Weren't they 6th last year? Title's clearly between the two Manchester clubs, but I think it'll be United. Fair comment, though I very much doubt that Redknapp or Venables would have got any more out of this particular England squad than Hodgson did. It's not a matter of lack of confidence or motivation, but of lack of enough talent and imagination in attacking positions. Rooney is talented, but looked very rusty in this tournament. Who else in our attack or attacking midfield would get in the Spanish team, or the German, or the Italian - or even the French, Dutch or Portuguese? Welbeck, Carroll, Milner - no chance, they wouldn't even have been considered. Young, Walcott and Gerrard might, just might, warm a bench somewhere if they were lucky. You need more skilful and creative players than these to win the major prizes. by torr

Interesting report about it in 'The Independent' today. Great similarities to your piece. Basically, the Italians are better than the English in all walks of life. Comes down to more than just football or money. It's about 'self belief' - no one in the England side has that Pirlo 'x factor' and that was the biggest difference of all. by 1st2thebar
