Review of Gap Year in USA, United States of America by daylight

Advantages: life experience, never to be forgotten
Disadvantages: leaving life behind in England

Ever fancied taking a year out, and moving somewhere that you thought you could only dream about? A few years ago I went to California on my own, to sample life in a place that I have always wanted to visit. I had only just turned twenty-one, and I had a ... Read review

Not so good, I'm afraid.
Review of Gap Year in Kenya by Rowan

Advantages: An interesting and worthwhile project to be involved with.
Disadvantages: Not safe enough to give the freedom of movement I would have liked.

I went to Africa to work for the WHO in one of their projects in Kenya. I decided to take a package trip into Tanzania and Zanzibar before I went in order to see a bit more of the country before I settled down. You have to be prepared to pay quite a bit ... Read review

Summer Job in Italy
Review of Gap Year in Italy by Trinitytrash

Advantages: You get to travel Italy. They pay for ALL your food, accommodation and travel in Italy
Disadvantages: It's hot. You have to want to work with children. The work is hard. You have to pay for your own flights

This summer I decided to escape the Wimbledon telly fortnight and the neighbours complaining about the two day heatwave and travel and work in Italy. I worked for ACLE Summer Camps in Italy teaching English to Italian children using drama, music, sport ... Read review

Sounds good! You know I almost worked for them a few years back, but took a job in another country instead. Maybe I'll apply again next year,,, by zoe_page
Great op, just one question, how were you able to cope without knowing any Italian? Were there translators there for you, or did you have to pick the language up quickly on your own. Sounds a great experience, and a very good opinion on it! Chris by Chris_Padden

Take Care
Review of Gap Year in South Africa by brofr

Advantages: Good exchange rate
Disadvantages: Unsafe, crime ridden, no work

Taking a gap year is intended to enhance the education a student has gained thus far and not meant as a survival course! Unfortunately a gap year in South Africa would amount to surviving, most likely build a lot of character if one is lucky enough to le ... Read review

no details at all, just bland sweeping statements by unibuddie
I found the posting to be only an opinion not factual at all. When last were you in SA? As a South African lady in the UK for my gap year I have been a victim of 2 crimes in 7 months in the UK!! In 21 years in SA (3 of them living on my own) I have never had to "survive" nor do I know any of my friends from abroad that have been in SA to have trouble getting work or being mugged, hijacked ect. Im not denying there is crime but too many people over publitise it like this. Its basic dont walk around with wads of cash and walk around late at night on your own ect....thats how I got mugged in the UK. Universal problem unfortunetly. by janetta1

Down and Out in Thailand
Review of Gap Year in Thailand by jezeres

Advantages: Everything to gain and nothing to loose
Disadvantages: Application for Thai citizenship costs £1000 (you'll be needing it)

I went to Thailand to 'engross myself' in the culture, a cheesy idea which would soon dawn on me as being completely impossible, after all you are European and earn in an hour what they earn in 2-3 days of hard labour... If they're lucky. Firstly book ... Read review

Hi Gwen, I did my gap year with Project Trust in Zim too! I'm glad the programme is still going strong, I'm sure the country needs it more than ever. I hope you manage to get back there soon, and that your partner's family remain safe through the current difficulties, such a great shame for a country with so much to offer. by Cazz
