Forever First
Review of Television Tower (Fernsehturm), Stuttgart by MALU

Advantages: the first
Disadvantages: none

In the world of architecture the only superlative worth its salt is *the first*. An edifice can remain the highest, longest, most expensive one only until a higher, longer, more expensive one has been built. But the first will always remain indisputably ... Read review

I've been up the Heinrich-Hertz-Turm in Hamburg, which I recall is an NDR equivalent, but when I just checked on Wikipedia, it seems that it has been closed for asbestos removal, although how up to date that is, is anyone's guess! by BNibbles

Sightseeing at the Alex
Review of Alexanderplatz, Berlin by fizzytom

Advantages: Free (unless you want to go up the tower); symbolic element
Disadvantages: Most of it is pretty ugly

The Berlin of my imagination is 1920s and early 1930s Berlin; the Berlin of Sally Bowles and Cabaret and smoky nightclubs. At the heart of that Berlin were the Alexanderplatz and the Potsdamer Plat, and being an ardent fan of Christopher Isherwood’s writi ... Read review

Apparently there is another story about the "toothpick", as you call it - the stainless-steel covering of the sphere atop the tower reflects the sunlight in such a way that it always appears in the shape of a cross - ironic, given that the secular socialist State made a point of removing crucifixes from churches. by pgn0

Germany's Tallest Building
Review of Fernsehturm, Berlin by dkm1981

Advantages: Great views, not too expensive, revolving restaurant
Disadvantages: Queues and wait to get up

Fernsehturm is the German for television tower and this one in Berlin, standing at 368 metres high, is germany's tallest building. It was constructed in the 60s by the then German Democratic Republic as a symbol of Berlin and it has achieved that status a ... Read review

War & Peace
Review of Brandenburger Tor, Berlin by fizzytom

Advantages: Free; easy to get to; lots of history
Disadvantages: Very busy; lots of people trying to make you part with your money

Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate (‘Brandenburger Tor’ in German) is not only one of the best known landmarks in Germany, it is symbolic more generally of the fall of the ‘Iron Curtain’ and those old enough will surely recall the momentous scenes as the Berlin Wa ... Read review

Drinking Wheat Beer at Berlin's Sony Centre
Review of Hofbräuhaus Lindenbräu Sony Center, Tiergarten, Berlin by fizzytom

Advantages: It's easy to get to; plenty of seating; a microbrewery
Disadvantages: Soulless; gets very busy and noisy

The dazzling Sony Centre on Berlin’s Potsdamerplatz might seem an unlikely place to find a microbrewery. Usually in this part of the world they take the form of beer hall style pubs, places with a traditional ambience, but Lindenbrau is a brew pub for the ... Read review

House of One Hundred Hangovers
Review of Haus Der 100 Biere, Tiergarten, Berlin by fizzytom

Advantages: Good choice of beers; traditional fare; good service
Disadvantages: Over-priced; could be full of tour groups

Disadvantages: Unprofessional staff and reception, very limited breakfast
