Interesting that you're still buying older tungsten filament bulbs - you could have got 5 bulbs, each consuming 3.2W, for 5 pounds more - and the life of each bulb is 30000 hours, much longer than a tungsten filament bulb: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p62319 Plus your candelabra-style fitting would look nice and sparkly and when all 5 bulbs are working, would consume less energy than a single one of the BC bulbs you paid £20 for six of... by pgn0

There is a "downlighting" element to this, via the opaque floor on the uplighter, (look closely at the picture!) which is useful. As my energy saving plan involves moving our various lightfittings over to LED lights as the original GU50 halogen bulbs fail and need to be replaced, I have yet to find a suitable replacement for the 200W halogen strip in the uplighter that casts light downwards as well as up towards the ceiling... Nice review, we've two of these in different rooms, wouldn't do without them. by pgn0

We have some of these, although they're a lot more expensive here. My main worry, though, is that if one of them breaks they are a major hazard ,due to containing mercury - and they have to be disposed of at a special place; they can't go in ordinary rubbish or recycling. They do seem to last well but Im not convinced they've saved us anything due to the high cost initially. by Kukana
