Smoke alarms all have a 10 year life span whatever their power source so I think you sound like you have got a good life out of that unit. Fire Angels are ionisation based so are less suited to detecting slow burning smouldering fires ie: electrics/foam filled furniture. Contact your local Fire service. They will come out and do a Home Safety visit and probably fit new alarms for free. by Stg27

Very informative review. If anyone thinks the price is too much then contact your local Fire service. Most will visit and fit alarms for you for free or a reduced cost. by Stg27

Good review. To avoid false alarms when cooking then install an optical detector on the ground floor which is less prone to activating from cooking fumes or alternatively close the kitchen door and open a window. by Stg27

Living in Blackpool myself I remember this fire. This is extremely useful information and I do believe it is so important for everyone to have a smoke detector saying this we haven't got one in our house where we live right now. How refreshing it was for me to read this review. As a young mum I was given my smoke alarms free and fitted free by the fire brigade. And if I call them they will come and check my alarms and give me any useful and helpful advice on all points. They even gave me an escape plan incase of a fire. I have to hand it to you, this is by far the best information i have read by an everyday walk of life human. The only thing I will add is that you can apply to your local fire brigade who are only too happy to help, supply and fit your essential smoke alarm. This review was common sense well paid for!
