Hungary's Saturday Place is Great Any Day
Review of Szombathely (Hungary) by fizzytom

Advantages: Handsome old city with lots to see and do; more accessible than you might think
Disadvantages: Lack of eating places in centre; odd opening hours of some attractions

...recently the Hungarian city of Szombathely was, for me, just a name on the map. I’ve been to Hungary, and to the west in particular, on several occasions but somehow always managed to avoid Szombathely, either by design or accident. Then I ch ... Read review

The Lady of the Lake
Review of Keszthely, Hungary by fizzytom

Advantages: Town with plenty to do, plenty to do locally, great food, the lake
Disadvantages: Sundays are pretty dead out of season

The great thing about Lake Balaton is the diversity of resorts and entertainment/activities based on its shores. Siofok is popular with a young crowd who party all night and spend the day sleeping it off; the Tihany peninsula is a mecca for hikers and na ... Read review

Tihany - Balaton's Little Treasure
Review of Tihany Village & Peninsula, Tihany by fizzytom

Advantages: A beautiful part of central Europe, food and accommodation are good value, lots to do and see
Disadvantages: May be too quiet in the evenings for some

Lake Balaton is variously described as Hungary's summer playground or Hungary's "inland sea" but it is, most simply, Europe's largest freshwater lake. It measures some 77 kilometres at its longest, 14 kilometres at its widest point and covers an area of 5 ... Read review

A Town with Stunning Architecture and Home of Bull's Blood
Review of Eger (Hungary) by Praski

Advantages: Interesting architecture, atmospheric inns, good wine drinking area, thermal baths
Disadvantages: Takes two hours from Budapest - might be too far for visitors to Budapest

Eger is architecturally a very interesting town. It lies 128 kilometres from Budapest and is also famous for being the home of Bull's Blood wine. The town is bursting with baroque architecture and has more listed buildings than any other towns in Hungary, ... Read review

City of Sunshine!
Review of Szeged (Hungary) by marksz91

Advantages: Beutiful, vibrant city with everything you want and need for a perfect holiday
Disadvantages: homeless people tend to move into this city for summer (not as bad as London, or any big city)

To be honest I visit Szeged around 5 times a year and I spend at least a month of my holiday in the summer there! I just love it From Budapest there is a highway straight to Szeged (approx. 1:30 hour drive). If you dont want to go by car, no problem ther ... Read review

I thought the place was crap !! typical German province. I tried to envisige it in high season - even worse - there are so many lovely warm lively places in Europe to go that have real FIRE - not wall to wall discotechs but a semblance of national personality -yes the lake is pretty and..................?????? We have spent a month at Balaton, dipped in Heviz as a family, got mauled by their masseuses and enjoyed the sight of all the old folk in their bicycle tubes! We camped in Kesthaly and toured most of the lake - it was cheap, different, and very relaxing. You have described it perfectly - Trevor by trevorbrock

You could have given some more detail - of travel to and from the country and also within; a bit more on the different types of scenery etc. And you should have commented on the food, and the prices, the shops, Lake Balaton etc etc ! We have been there for both a short stay and a month's camping at Kesthaly - we really enjoyed the experience, and the people were so friendly. - thanks for reminding me of a great country - Trevor by trevorbrock

Disadvantages: Surly locals, scary (though tasty) food
