Travel to Marrakech
Review of Marrakech (Morocco) by sprouts2009

Advantages: lovely riad
Disadvantages: A nation of conmen and not safe, women are particularly vulnerable.

Please consider going elsewhere. Every single person we spoke to in the airport lounge and on the plane on the way back home said "never again". We were totally unprepared for the constant harrassment from the locals, who kept trying to convince you that ... Read review

Review of Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK), Marrakech by kama0529

Advantages: Distance from centre. Clean and air-con.
Disadvantages: Queues!! Very slow service. No taxi controller.

Arriving at Marrakech airport, first impressions seemed okay. The stairs were at the plane very quickly and so we were off the plane in a few minutes. We did need to walk a short distance across the tarmac to the main airport arrivals lounge - which agai ... Read review

Oh - I can tell ye a story about the tanneries of Marrakesh and it goes like this..... We were collared in the same way you were and lead to the far side of the city walls where they promised me was a short cut to the medersa. But they lied. We too were then led to a Berber shop and they spent ages trying to get me to buy something. I continued talking in French that we were promised a medersa and so unless he knew where it was I wasn't playing his haggling games. This went on for a while until the shop owner got a little angry that we were buying nothing (not even the silly little slipper shoes) and we began to leave. He tried to stop us, but I ignored that. However when we were outside we were accusted by the Tannery Man (which is not a super hero) and he bagen saying he had 100 workers to fed and we should give him 1,000Dhm. I laughed and said if he would take me back to the tannery I would personally give each worker 10Dhms. Apparently that is not a good deal maker and this guy then got upset and said only he gave money to his workers. So I said OK - No money. He got angry and we began to have a conversation in the back streets of Berberland. Many people put their heads round their doors and at this point I thought I didn't really know exactly where I was and it was probably best to avoid getting killed so I made my final offer..... A pen (with a lid) He took two and said this was the greatest gift. We left round a corner and to the outside of the city walls. I gave away a total of 24 pens that holiday - so much cheaper than paying anybody. Never again have I or shall I be taken for a mug again in a foreign country or East London. Anyway, I know it's a roundabout way of saying it, but I guess the whole point of what I'm trying to say is that this brought back memories and I can smell the urine even now. by TheTravellingShowAndTellMan
