My Stagg M20 Mandolin looks rather like a morphed violin
Review of Stagg M20 Bluegrass Mandolin in Violinburst by Gooseydyoo

Advantages: Inexpensive. Not too difficult to learn
Disadvantages: Essential accessories, ie picks, case and strap need purchasing separately

I have very fond memories of when I was a toddler visiting my gran, she had an old mandolin, strung with piano strings... sacrilege really, but to me it was a toy and like all kids I liked to make a noise, and what a noise it made. Never did I imagine tha ... Read review

My partner plays mandolin (and guitar, mandola, 4 string banjo, 12 string guitar, pennywhistle..makes me sick ;) ). I used to play cello and so, for the same reason as you, I had a go. I found the wrist position really difficult though, as the cello has a very natural (albeit stretched for my tiny hands) string position. Enjoy your re-acquaintance with the mandolin! by mattygroves

Epiphone EB3 - Probably the best in its price range
Review of Epiphone EB-3 Electric Bass by bonzodog69

Advantages: Big range of sound, and if left on sidewinder the floor will vibrate. Looks really cool
Disadvantages: Neck dive

This EB3 is the neck sidewinder pick up and bridge mini humbucker pick up version. It has a full 34" scale and a medium thick neck. You can select between each pickup or mix both and have full tone control. The range of sounds you can get from this bass i ... Read review

Less plinky plonk, more rawk....
Review of Blue Moon BU-09 Tenor Ukulele by spiritwood

Advantages: Gorgeous looks, less plink, more bass, varied tunings.
Disadvantages: Do not expect perfection, but for the price it is superb.

If you have played around with a Uke and want to move up to something with more "Oomph", then this baritone Ukulele hits the spot. Beautifully shaped and with a deeper sound that projects well, this will turn heads. I not only have a house full of guit ... Read review

Excellent review! I wonder if I'd find one of these less challenging than a six-string guitar - I grew up playing violin and the extra strings confuse me! by melinda3536

Review of Boss GT-10 Set 1 by alexcorreia

Advantages: Tons of effects
Disadvantages: Tons of useless effects

This unit is not too difficult to use but it can take a long time to achieve a sound you're happy with. The amount of time spent tweaking is the amount of time you won't be practicing guitar. The manual is quite good actually, it explains every thing in g ... Read review

Review of Behringer Ultravoice XM1800s Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphones by DJLemonBar

Advantages: Inexpensive, sound good, come with clips, comes with case

Advantages: portability, great sounding
Disadvantages: short battery life, a bit overpriced

Shure SM58 LC: A robust multi purpose microphone that takes abuse
Review of Shure SM 58 LC by stevie69p

Advantages: Robust build quality and familiar sound
Disadvantages: There are better sounding alternatives these days
