Advantages: Up beat, great tracks, good showcase of Mod music
Disadvantages: Some important omissions

Disadvantages: may not be to everyone's taste

The kinks debut album released after two flop singles in 1963 the album being released in 1964/65 featuring the massive single "you really got me" a number one single for 4 weeks. This album is exceptional in my opinion but this was an exceptional year fo ... Read review

Disadvantages: Not a single weak track on this album

Review of Hidden Treasures - Dave Davies by JOHNV

Advantages: Very comprehensive collection; several previously unreleased tracks
Disadvantages: Unless you're not a Kinks fan, surely none

Dave Davies The Kinks would certainly never have existed without the brilliance of Ray Davies as front man and main songwriter. But let us not underestimate the other constant element in the group and their three decades together, the presence of ...

Pop Music Ain't What it Used to Be
Review of Sugar Sugar (The Birth of Bubblegum Pop) - Various Artists by rosebud2001

A runaway career
Review of Very Best Of Del Shannon [Universal UK] - Del Shannon by JOHNV

Advantages: Excellent overview of his career; generous playing time
Disadvantages: Some tracks a little samey, otherwise none really

Del Shannon’s performing career lasted for 29 years, from his first (and best-remembered) hit in 1961 to his tragic death. This retrospective, containing all the hits and a few additional tracks from his later career, was issued in 2010 and reached No. 2 ... Read review

Del's final work - but a great album to go out on
Review of Rock On! - Del Shannon by JOHNV

Advantages: Some good songs, and at least one really great one
Disadvantages: Possibly a little bit too Jeff Lynne-dominated soundwise (good as Lynne is)

Del Shannon was one of the first-generation American rock’n’roll stars of the early 1960s, whose name will always be synonymous with the classic ‘Runaway’, a transatlantic No. 1 in 1961. One of several singers whose success faded with the advent of the B ... Read review

I'm glad to hear little reference to anything 'sounding like ELO'...not that I dislike ELO but I remember most of Lynne's productions around that time being accused of ploughing that particular furrow. by greenierexyboy

Review of Girls In The Garage Vol.2 - Various Artists by dangaroo

Advantages: Great 60s music, awesome lyrics, cool songs
Disadvantages: None

Review of Open Mind of J.D. Loudermilk - John D. Loudermilk by dangaroo

Advantages: Good music with cool lyrics
Disadvantages: none

John D Loudermilk might not be a name that rolls of the tongue nor a name as well known as Paul McCartney or Neil Sedaka but he is undoubtedly one of the best songwriters of the 60s and 70s. Whilst he's mostly well known for penning hits which would be su ... Read review

Review of Barbed Wire Sandwich - Black Cat Bones by dangaroo

Advantages: Good heavy blues

Lyrics too sticky, singing too sweet
Review of Just Colour - Lollipop Shoppe (The) by dangaroo

Advantages: You Must be a Witch is a great song
Disadvantages: A lot of average tracks

Review of Voyage of the Pessimistic Philosophy - Art Of Burning Water by dangaroo

Advantages: Some decent songs
Disadvantages: Some songs that don't stand out

Review of Girls In The Garage Vol.1 - Various Artists by dangaroo

Advantages: Lots of good catchy girl garage tunes
Disadvantages: The middle part of the album is a bit poor

The music never died! - The Best Of Buddy Holly
Review of Best Of Buddy Holly, The - Buddy Holly by CelticSoulSister

Advantages: The largely best known work of a true legend
Disadvantages: Could have included a wider range of Buddy's material
